CLUB NEWS | THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2022 | 37 Would you like to meet some new friends and fellow Colony residents? Come to Tuesday Night Social. We meet from 5 to 6 pm every Tuesday in the Lounge. It's BYOB, also bring something to eat and/or share with others. We contribute a small amount each week which goes towards the purchase of pizza for everyone. Pizza night is the third Tuesday of the month. If you have any further questions, give me a call at 951-461-8821. We hope to see you there. Tuesday Night Social By Joyce Hansen Petal Pushers Garden Club By Gloria Brosky, 714-292-8507 The Petal Pushers invite you to an early morning field trip on Tuesday, Aug. 23. Some Colony homeowners are familiar with Garden Vibes, but I visited this hidden gem for the first time in June and have returned several times. Garden Vibes is filled with succulents galore and a variety of ceramic planters of various sizes, hangers and wall art. This quaint little business is hidden in the hills up Greer Road off Clinton Keith. They have a website you can visit to preview the shop. Since August is often warm, we will meet at the Clubhouse parking lot at 9 am and carpool. If you have difficulty driving to the Clubhouse, send me an email, and I will arrange to have you picked up. The grounds of Garden Vibes consist of small pebbles which may be difficult for wheelchairs and possibly walkers. This field trip will take the place of our daytime meeting in August. Please email me at gabrosky@att.net if you plan to attend this trip. When Ben Givens finds out he has terminal cancer, he decides to take his two hunting dogs out into the wild one last time. His last goodbye to the land he loves and to life itself becomes a complicated tangle of the harshness of life, the loveliness of the landscape, and the chance that always exists to think of others in the middle of your own mess. Written without sentimentality, East of the Mountains by David Guterson takes us along on one man's spiritual and moral journey as he comes to terms with his own suffering and mortality. Join the Book Readers on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 10:30 am in the Meeting Room to discuss this book. Our September selection will be The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave, and the discussion will be led by Anna Beal. Meal Train is back up and running and we need you! This is a wonderful service for any and all Colony residents. We are counting on all of you to let us know when a friend or neighbor returns home from the hospital or rehab or needs help with their meals for whatever reason, even if it is YOU. We have volunteers right here who will make and take a meal or two to those in need. We are taking new volunteers, so please help us to help others. This program takes little time and is so rewarding. To share the importance of this mission… "The last time I took a meal to someone, she hugged me and had tears in her eyes and said she had not had anything to eat in two days." (My words — a true story!) This is an important program of neighbors helping neighbors. For more information, please call Gloria Carroll at 562-764-0607 or Sharon Boll at the above number.
