| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2022 | 3 The Fourth of July parade and celebration was awesome this year. Thank you to Sheila James for her beautiful rendition of the National Anthem and the VFW for presenting the colors. There were 50 carts and three floats for judging with Pat and Michele Carter winning the Bill Mock award for the most creative. Kara and her staff did an excellent job coordinating all of the events and activities. We also had many compliments about the lunch provided by Kris and his staff. Matt was very busy serving Bloody Marys during the pre-parade hour. All of the new committees have now been filled. We have a new position entitled Community Ambassador. This person will represent us at the City Council, Chamber of Commerce, and other community events. The charter was recently approved by the Board and the selection of that volunteer will be made this month. The Board is in the process of reviewing our major contracts to ensure we are getting optimal service for the best possible price. Requests for Proposals will be sent out and reviewed by the Board and our Contract Review Committee. Some of the current contracts could be resigned or renegotiated; only time will tell. After a recent Board audit of the Securitas call center during the graveyard shift, it was determined that the call center position on that shift could be eliminated. This has been accomplished and will result in an annual savings of $66,000. On June 25, from 7 to 10:30 am portions of Sun Lakes had a power outage. We want to thank Dick and Linda Spaulding for bringing their RV to the Bus Room for use of their generator. Also Eileen and Hank Zulkowski brought their portable generator to the Bus Room to help anyone who required electricity for their medical equipment. The Board is now in the process of purchasing two generators, one for the Bus Room and one for the Restaurant to avoid food spoilage. A Restaurant & Lounge survey card was approved by the Board and will survey staff service, menu, food quality, ambiance and customer comments. The survey cards became available on July 8 when the new menu was implemented. The Restaurant & Lounge hours continue to be extended along with banquets and large events in the Ballroom. The Board has received a number of complaints regarding the soiled carpet in the Ballroom. Lori Hazelton is currently working with the Board to upgrade and replace the carpet in the Ballroom. The new State Water Mandates and water restrictions are a major concern. The Board held a Town Hall on July 14 explaining the water restrictions for our community and our residents. The good news is that our golf courses are considered a sports field and not subject to this regulation. The bad news is that all ornamental water features must cease to operate which means our waterfalls at the main gate and gate number two will be shut down. The Governor's Executive Order N-7-22 is for one year and we are hoping that we may be able to re-open our beautiful waterfalls at that time. The HOA and resident water restrictions will be posted on our website and copies will be available at the reception desk in the Main Clubhouse. In response to recent thefts at the RV lot and the North side, the Board is attempting to obtain support from the city of Banning for increased patrolling from the Banning Police Department (BPD). We had a meeting with the Police Chief Matt Hamner and City Manager Doug Schultz. They committed to increased patrolling and to holding regular meetings to address any future security issues. Additionally, we will have Securitas conduct focused patrolling. The Board is considering the installation of additional cameras and enhanced lighting. BPD will be assigning one officer to be our point of contact. The Chief reminded us that if we see any suspicious individuals, activities, or thefts, call BPD at 911. The Board thanks all of the residents who stepped up to be a volunteer in our new committees. We are very impressed with their commitment and expertise. They are performing a valuable service in helping us to maintain and enhance our beautiful community. "There is immense power when a group of people with similar interests get together to work towards the same goals." ~ Idowu Koyenkan From the Master Board
