Our Community Awareness Program is focused on keeping our community safe and to notify the proper authorities to resolve issues. We want to stay vigilant, keep an eye on our community, and provide presentations to keep you informed. At our June meeting, Chief Todd Hopkins and Captain Matt Escandel from Cal Fire, Station 20, gave an informative talk. Questions were submitted ahead of time and each question was answered thoroughly. Some questions were also asked by the audience and they were answered. This was a very informative program. Please check channel 97 to see the program. Chief Hopkins suggested we do this twice a year. They are willing to put on a CPR class for us. Cpl. Jaugeri with the Banning Police Department spoke on issues facing our community and how to deal with them. He talked about the homeless situation and what they are doing. He gave information on the break-ins at the RV lot. He also spoke about arresting individuals and how they are released shortly thereafter. If you have specific questions, please contact the police department at the non emergency number (951) 922-3170. However, if you see something suspicious, please dial 911. Mike Romero, Director of Securitas, gave updated information on what incidents have occurred in Sun Lakes. He reminded residents to keep garage doors closed and not to keep your golf cart keys in your cart unless you are in it. Make sure to give correct information to the guard shack on visitors entering Sun Lakes. Please make sure to tell your guests to have their ID ready at the gate and to give your name and address. Call the guard shack ahead of time to give them your guests' names; it will speed up the entry process. He reminded residents that Securitas does not arrest or apprehend suspects; they are not armed. They are community patrol only. If you suspect something is wrong or you see something, contact 911. Securitas is working very closely with the Banning Police Department. They are now patrolling outside the perimeter of Sun Lakes and providing extra patrolling in the RV lot. At the Aug. 31, 1 to 3 pm meeting in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom, we welcome Dr. Karan Singh, Chief Medical Officer and Director of Emergency at San Gorgonio. This will be a very informative presentation regarding hospital emergency procedures. Please make time to attend. Also present will be an officer from the Banning Police Department and Mike Romero, Director of Securitas. On Saturday morning, June 25, much of the Sun Lakes community experienced a power outage that lasted for several hours. Without electricity, it was difficult for residents to find out how long the outage would last. Landlines were not operational and residents who needed electricity for their medical equipment were left without support. Good Day Sun Lakes is a news and informational site for our community. It was providing up-to-the minute information as to where residents could find emergency power to support their medical needs as well as gate entry/exit information and an estimate from Banning Electric on when power would be restored. You can join Good Day Sun Lakes via Facebook just for emergency purposes. Thanks to Dick and Linda Spaulding for bringing their RV to use their generator outside the Bus Room. Thank you to Hank and Eileen Zulkowski for their portable generator that we used by the Bus Room to help with anyone who needed electricity for their medical devices. In response to recent thefts in the RV storage and the North Side, the Board is attempting to obtain increased patrolling from Banning Police Department and will be implementing additional security measures. SECURITY & PREVENTION TIP: At night be vigilant to check your surroundings when walking or entering our community. PLEASE REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS INDIVIDUALS, ACTIVITIES AND THEFTS DIRECTLY TO BANNING POLICE DEPARTMENT, CALL 911! If anyone is interested in becoming part of our steering committee, our next meeting will be on August 2nd from 1:00 to 3:30 in the bus room. Hope to see everyone on Aug. 31. Let's all be informed and stay safe. For more information, please contact Michele Walter, (951) 202-8009 or email crystalwater@dc.rr.com. | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2022 | 7 Community Awareness Program "Securitas does not arrest or apprehend suspects; they are not armed.
