| OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2022 | 15 Village Squares Red, white, and blue! These colors were everywhere as the Village Squares celebrated July Fourth with a pizza party from Oggi's, beer and soft drinks provided by Al Harruf, decorated cupcakes, a festive décor, and plenty of dancing! Village Squares is a club that enjoys decorating and dressing up for all occasions, and our members always rise to the occasion. Our guest caller, Pat Carnathan, entertained us all with his humor and outgoing personality. We started the night with a demonstration dance by the advanced dancers to hopefully encourage students, who seemed to enjoy it. Our classes go on, with our caller Mike Haworth completing the teaching of the 50 calls in Social Square Dancing. Soon our students will be graduated and able to enjoy just dancing. Mike is an excellent teacher, very patient with all and very accomplished in his singing calls. We look forward to many more nights of dancing and to bringing more students into our modern American square dance. It is a much more relaxed square dance, without the formal dress of the past and an easier path to completion. We hope to see you in a square! Line Dancers How's your brain? When you exercise, the levels of chemicals in your brain that encourage nerve cells to grow is increased and since dancing requires you to remember various steps and sequences, your brain power is boosted, which helps to improve your memory! Also dancing incorporates several brain functions at once – kinesthetic, rational, musical and emotional. Utilizing all of these at the same time can further increase your neural activity, helping reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease and dementia. It's a lot of fun too! Although some of our songs are country western – most are not. Just last week we were learning a dance to Hernando's Hide-away, a tango! Line dance classes are once a week: Beginner (1): Tuesday. 10:30 – 11:30 am Improver (2): Monday, 12:30 – 2 pm Intermediate (3): Thursday, 2:30 – 4 pm (schedule may vary, call Sunny to confirm.) Want to try it out? Come on by. Beginner's class is $5 (60 minutes). Other levels are $7 (90 minutes). You do not have to be a club member for the first couple of 'try it' classes. After that you will also need to join the club. Dues are $10/year. If you are interested in participating in our activities and are not sure who to reach out to for further information, please call Sunny Griffin (970) 708-0443. Also, please visit our website, https:// ohccvillagelinedan.wixsite.com/linedancing "Men Hosting a Party — What could go wrong" was the theme for our June party. Our handsome team of long-time Doo Wop- pers, from left to right: Jim Campbell, Tom Silva, Mike Malloy, Dan Golembiewski, Marv Harwood, Alan Ballard, Jim Kaminsky, and Mike Ball arranged it all and welcomed 200 members to a wonderful night of BBQ and poolside dancing. If you enjoy music of our youth, you'll love the Doo Wop & Disco Dance Club. Our summer parties are poolside with a DJ; the others are in Abravanel Hall, often with a live band. If you would like to learn how to become a member of the Doo Wop & Disco Dance Club and enter lotteries for almost-monthly parties, print out the membership form on the Social Clubs/Doo Wop Club's website on Ocean Hills Country Club.com, complete the information, and drop it by the Clubhouse front desk. Include a check for $10 per person for annual dues payable to OH Doo Wop Club. We will send you info about the upcoming parties. Hope to see you on the dance floor! Doo Wop and Disco Dance Club
