20 | OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2022 | Here we are already experiencing the hot August summer nights! The parties under the Lanai canopy continue, with staff admiring the creativity of the residents when it comes to planning their events. The Racquet, the Wine, the Golf, and the Doo Wop Clubs are hosting their events with their large memberships in mind. This can be a real challenge as the "tarmac" is only so big. The Flag Court has provided additional space to host the caterers. With limited space and the golf course remaining closed, the Recreation Department has moved our "Concert and Dancing on the Green" to Sat., Oct. 15, starting at 3:30 pm. Arrive early to set up. This brings us into daylight savings time and the need to start the concert earlier. The band is Hickory Wind, playing an array of music for all of those that attend. Look for a flyer with more details. We are looking forward to a celebration and getting the entire community involved, so mark your calendars. With having to reschedule the concert, we have added a new program for the Labor Day Weekend. We are providing a movie and sing-along on the Pool Deck, Sat., Sept. 3. "Cinema Under the Stars," begins at 7:30 pm, tickets are on sale for only $5. We will be featuring Mama Mia with a 33 ft. inflatable screen, snacks and sodas provided. The pool will be closed for the event. This sounds like a whole lot of fun; there is one Recreation Director that will be dancing the night away. See you on the deck, grab a lounge chair or BYOC (bring your own chair), as we take off on an OHCC Summer's Night Cruise! Seating is limited. The Annual Flea Market will be sponsored by the Recreation Department on Sat., Sept. 17, 9 am to 1 pm in the Clubhouse. Tables are available to reserve starting Mon., Aug. 15. The Garden Club plans to have their plant sale in the Overflow Parking Lot. Plans are still formulating, so stay tuned. The driveway sales last year were necessary because of the COVID concerns, but the community missed seeing each other, and not being able to go table to table, while selling at the same time, remembering: "One man's trash is another man's treasure." • What is useless to some is worth a lot to others • One man's junk is another man's income. • Things that some throw-away others will use. On Sun., Oct. 23 at 1 pm, we are offering a one-day class with R Dub Candle Company, in candle making taught by the owner, Rosanne Weathers. The cost of the class is $30, checks payable to R Dub Candle Making and each class is two hours long, includes everything you will need to make a full size, beautiful candle with lid, 100% soy wax, choice of high fragrance oil, and step-by-step instructions. This will be held in the Craft Room. Maximum class size is 18. Sign up at the Front Desk. Flyers are available in the racks at the Clubhouse. Invite a friend to join the class. Happy rest of your summer! We will begin our annual reservation process in September for 2023. In order of priority, the reservations will be inputted: HOA sponsored, Community Performances, Clubs, Interest Groups, Classes, and then Private Party Room Rentals. Once this is completed, additional reservations can be made in the new year. This will take a few months to input and record. Please if there are questions, contact the Clubhouse. We will do our best to contact the groups and explain the process. After all, we love to be busy, active, and engaged. See you somewhere in this fabulous Clubhouse! Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director By Carol Jones Ridership is increasing thanks to support from the OHCC Master Board, OHCC Living Magazine, Clubhouse staff, Community Service Committee, and interested residents. Many residents are currently able to drive. They appreciate the value of having shuttle service as their needs change, as we all know how quickly life changes. Thanks to all supporting the continuation of NO VACANCY TRANSPORTATION Shuttle Service. The price of gas is another reason to try the shuttle in August. What do you think it costs you to drive yourself to San Marcos? Try the shuttle and save your gas. Tuesday am/pm + Thursday am/pm for various local shopping. PICK UP at your home. RETURN to your HOME. The schedule is in the rack in Clubhouse. There is a lot of interest in day trips to non-shopping venues: San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, Liberty Station, Little Italy… etc. Please let the OHCC Master Board and Chris Bessey know where YOU would like to go on an OHCC sponsored trip. See you soon on the shuttle. See You on the Shule!
