| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2022 | 15 Sun Lakes Committee Reports The Restaurant & Lounge Advisory Committee is comprised of volunteer residents with varied skill sets and business backgrounds. Together we research, collaborate, and brainstorm. Our focus is always on making SLCC more enjoyable for all of us while enhancing revenue to our own Restaurant and Lounge. I keep repeating it — we are happy with the opinions, comments, and accolades so many of you have submitted through our locked suggestion box. We will announce the August Comment Card Winner on Sept. 10. Good or bad, we encourage and look forward to taking into consideration your thoughts and opinions. Here we are in September, the first month of autumn. A lot of members have asked for or mentioned dining "specials" on certain days of the week. Chef Chris has created a "Taco Tuesday" buffet beginning Tues., Sept. 13: Two chicken or beef tacos, Mexican rice and refried beans, or you can be creative and build your own taco salad. The price is $18 including tax and surcharge. "Pasta Thursday" buffet will begin Thurs., Sept. 15. Choose from a variety of pastas and three of Chef 's own special sautéed sauces, garlic bread, and typical Italian garden salad, all for $20 including tax and surcharge. These special buffets will be pre-sale ticket dinners only. Call the Restaurant and book your reservation and purchase your tickets early; these special buffets sell out quickly. Call our Restaurant hostess at (951) 769-6654. We are very proud to say, "Our restaurant and Lounge have been experiencing great member attendance." Last month, I mentioned our Pastry Chef Michael Cirocco. He has been creating homemade delicacies such as Blueberry Panna Cotta, Bread Pudding with Rum Sauce, Chocolate-Berry Mousse Shooters and Bananas Foster. Wow! Take your pick, all are yummy! Have you met Leobardo Albarran Navarro, proudly named after his father, fondly known as Leo? Leo enjoys his time off, and his main love and hobby is cooking family meals for his wife of 19 years, Veronica and their three children. Leo has an affinity for all creatures, great and small. His family includes four-legged fur family members… three dogs and two cats. For the past year, Leo has enjoyed his position here at Sun Lakes. Being a Banning resident, working at Sun Lakes Country Club keeps him grounded in extended family and keeps him close to home. We are pleased to have Leo as part of our Sun Lakes Country Club family. Don't forget, try our spectacular brunch. Mark your calendars: Brunch is always on the last Sunday of the month. September is a very important month for the changing of the seasons. On Sept. 23, you will witness the Autumnal Equinox. This is the changing of summer into autumn, and both the day and night measure roughly the same length of time. In the U.S., September is also seen as a time of year to celebrate Grandparents. National Grandparents' Day is a holiday which takes place on the first Sunday of September following a Monday. September is host to some seriously strange national days in the U.S. For example, Sept. 24 is National Punctuation Day – we're not entirely sure how you'd celebrate that! Also, Sept. 19 is International Talk Like a Pirate Day! September is known for many things, in particular the start of fall - however, it's also famous for being the start of the football seasons in the US. Look for some of our football specials coming up. ~ Carole Elliott The Lifestyles Advisory Committee meets on the seventh of every month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit articles from clubs and groups for each month's issue of Lifestyles Magazine. We meet with Master Board member Lori Hazelton, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and Recreation Director Kara Lukasik to keep updated about upcoming events in Sun Lakes. We welcome volunteers to apply to become part of our committee. If you love words, copy editing, and red pens, and promise to attend every meeting, pick up an application from the Main Clubhouse receptionist and turn it in to the Admin office.
