18| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2022 | By Kara Lukasik Fun Fact: September gets its name from the Latin septem, meaning seven, because it used to be the seventh month of the year under the Roman calendar. Now that summer is almost over – the unofficial last day of summer is Labor Day –it is time to get ready for fall. The Recreation Department has been busy getting ready for all the fun-filled events that are planned for upcoming months. We are going to have a Night of Magic and a Billionaire's Masquerade Ball Murder Mystery Dinner that should be exciting. Of course, there will be lots of music on the Veranda with our weekend entertainment in addition to the Laguna Jazz band. You can't forget the Garage Sale weekends and Community Shredding day, and our annual Halloween Dog Parade. Then there is the Fall Craft Show Nov. 4 and 5; I can't wait to see what everyone has to offer this year. It's also time to begin thinking about our Annual Veterans Walk. We are looking for sponsors for the event. If you know of any local business, please have them call me at (951) 769- 6651. It's also a good time to start getting ready for the walk – find a friend and walk a little bit everyday so that when the big day arrives – you can do it! From the Recreation Director THE LAST ICE CREAM SOCIAL Mon., Sept. 12, 2 pm, Sandwedge; $3 per person. Cool down with a delicious Ice Cream Sundae brought to you by the Recreation Advisory Committee. Sundaes will be $3 for three scoops of ice cream and your choice of fixings! EVENINGS ON THE VERANDA Join us on the Main Clubhouse Veranda the first Wednesday of each month, 4 to 7 pm, for some wonderful entertainment. The multi-talented Renee Rojanaro will be on the Veranda performing at her favorite place. So please join us and enjoy some great music and dancing. The dates are Sept. 7 and Oct. 5. All other Wednesdays are the normal Happy Hour events. MUSIC UNDER THE STARS Sept. 24, 6:30 - 9:30 pm, Tin Man's Heart. We hope you will join us as we dance the night away. Please remember it is first come first served seating and no outside alcohol or food can be consumed on the Veranda. ACTIVITIES DAY Sat., Sept. 24, Main Clubhouse Ballroom, 1 - 4 pm. The Recreation Department is proud to continue its yearly tradition of Activities Day! Each year all the active clubs, groups and recreation get together to show you what Sun Lakes has to offer. Want to join a new club, or to know exactly what the Young at Heart Club is all about? Want to learn how to play 8-ball or bocce? How about trying your hand at acting… well this is the event for you! It is also the perfect time to learn more about the various advisory committees – most committees will be on the look-out for new members this fall and you can pick-up a volunteer interest form. Mark your calendars and bring your neighbors and friends! If you would like to participate in this year's Activity Day, please contact the Recreation Department at (951) 845-2191 to reserve a table. FALL GARAGE SALES Sales are 8 am to 4 pm. Residents are asked to have any remaining items that did not sell back into their homes after the garage sale.
