We have the most active adult community in the nation, and we hope you participate and join in the fun of living here. Our Homeowners Association has a Welcome Home program in which all new arrivals are invited to dinner. We hope to show ourselves as friendly and knowledgeable enough to answer all of your questions. District Delegates are invited so you can meet your Delegate. A bag of information is given to each new arrival containing information sheets, magazines, free passes for golf, and so on. However, we have a problem that has occurred too often — the new arrivals are "no shows." Either they refuse to attend or commit themselves to attend and do not show up. We do not have the opportunity to display our friendship, to explain the rules, to answer questions, and to encourage them to participate in our clubs and use our facilities. Hopefully, they will read the 'Rules and Regulations' printed in our phone book. In fact, all residents should be familiar with the "GENERAL STATEMENT OF RULES AND REGULATIONS" in your current phone book. When we ALL follow them, it makes for a happier community. Years ago, we had an "Orientation Night" each quarter of the year hosted by the Board where all new homeowners or renters were invited to attend a meeting. We would speak of the governmental makeup of our community, how rules came about, discuss the surrounding areas, and answer questions. There are people who think this was a better method of reaching our new friends rather than in a dining room competing with the background noise. Either approach is successful if we have an audience to welcome to their new home. W hope to convince new arrivals to be active and use the facilities they are paying for. We hope they have not located here for security only, and couldn't care less what Sun Lakes is all about. We have a Board of Directors who governs our facility and finances and a management company who manages facilities and staff and carries out the policies of the Board. The residents of each District elect a Delegate to represent them and to make recommendations to the Board for the betterment of our community. All of these arrangements were legally put together for the benefit of each and every resident. Sun Lakes will continue to succeed as it has for the past 35 years and residents will enjoy their retirement if we all work — and play — together. ~ Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly DISTRICT DELEGATE ASSEMBLY REPORT New to Sun Lakes? We want to meet you! In an emergency situation, would you want to know how to help someone who is injured, bleeding, possibly in shock, choking, or has a broken bone? We never know when we will be faced with an emergency: you may need to help a member of your family, a neighbor, or friend. To do this, you need to be prepared and trained to administer first aid until help arrives. EPAP is in need of volunteers with first-aid training. To better serve our community, EPAP is helping to facilitate basic first-aid training classes here in Sun Lakes. These classes are open to all residents, and will be taught by Sun Lakes resident Linda Myers-Kalb, RN, certified Red Cross First Aid Instructor. Classes are 6 hours long — you will have a choice of two 3-hour classes or one 6- hour class. The fee per person is $22, and advance registration is required. 1. Tues. Sept. 13, 9 am – 12 pm (3 hrs. part 1) and Thurs. Sept. 15, 9 am – 12 pm (3 hrs, part 2) (must attend both sessions) 2. Tues. Sept. 27, 9 am – 4 pm (6-hr class, bring your lunch) 3. Thurs. Sept. 29, 9 am – 4 pm (6-hr class, bring your lunch) All classes will be held at the EPAP Operations Center in the Maintenance Building, 1300 Country Club Dr. Parking on Country Club Dr. is allowed for this event. FIRST-AID TRAINING We're getting ready for our meeting after going dark for July. Our next meeting is scheduled for Mon., Sept. 19, at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. At this time, we do not have a guest speaker. I have been working on getting a couple people to bring in their unique pets but have had no luck so far. So if you are interested in bringing in your pet with a unique story, please contact me. We would love to have you as a guest. We are interested in all animals for pets. It could be a bird, tortoise, or even a lizard! Call me — it's not too late! I will have an email sent to the group as a reminder of the meeting and letting you know if we have some volunteer speakers with pets. I hope we do.
