| THE COLONY NEWS | SEPTEMBER 2022 | 29 David Gortner is our September Artist of the Month. He has lived in The Colony for two years and lived in Silverton, Oregon, for 11 years before moving here. David's father was an accomplished Watercolorist, so it comes naturally to him. David studied watercolor at the Academy of Art in Chicago and has been painting his whole life. He has won numerous awards, one in particular being Best of Show at an Art Faire in Silverton. He enjoys painting trains but also paints seascapes and landscapes. His other hobbies are playing the Classics on the violin and the viola. He also belongs to the Colony Chorus and loves singing and music in general. This is his first showing of his artwork in our Clubhouse Lobby. We welcome you, David, to our Colony group of artists. Thank you for sharing your beautiful artwork with your community. Artist of the Month By Sylvia Maxwell, 818-667-1766 We meet on the first Thursday of each month in the Annex from 10 am to 4 pm (or until you drop). Sept. 1 is our next workshop. With fall just around the corner (tell the weatherman that), it's time to get serious about our holiday projects. We have nearly six hours of quality, dedicated sewing time and plenty of room to lay out our "stuff." Bring your well-tuned sewing machine, your notions and your own project(s), or use our supply of donated fabric to make charity items of your choice. We have recently supported the Murrieta Police Department with lap quilts for traumatized victims of intense events. Also, bring a Show & Tell project so we can see what you have been doing since last month. Join us for assistance, friendly advice, problem solving, giggles, camaraderie and a potluck lunch. Quilters Workshop always welcomes new sewists to our group; however, we do not give sewing lessons to the inexperienced. IMPORTANT: Please RSVP so I can reserve a table and outlet(s) for each of you. For any information, please don't hesitate to call me at the above number. This is our Watercolor class in July that painted a negative painting of a cone flower. Our class meets the last Thursday of each month from 9 am to noon in the Annex. Our class members range from beginners to advanced. We ask that you bring your own supplies. Beginners are welcome. We hope you will join us for some fun and an opportunity to discover your creativity. Classes are free. If you have any questions, please call me at the above number.
