30 | THE COLONY NEWS | SEPTEMBER 2022 | Ladies Golf Men's Golf The Colony Men's Golf Club was formed in April 1990 to provide regular, organized tournaments for Colony resident golfers. And it still continues with tournaments of various formats, ranging from scramble and shamble group play to individual stroke play being held on Wednesday each week. In talking about varying the tournament format, from time to time a "lowest putts" competition will be included in the tournament with the golfer with the lowest number of putts eligible for the annual prize and trophy to be awarded at year's end – all good fun! So far for 2022, the leader in the lowest putts category is Mel Rich (at right), scoring an unbelievable 24 putts over the 18 holes! Very well played, Mel! Why not join us? To become a member of Men's Golf Club, call our Membership Chairman, Bill Connelly, at 760-861-4831. Since the CMGC is a member club of the SCGA, full membership in the CMGC also includes membership in the SCGA at a reduced fee. Finally, our thanks to all members and partners who attended our recent Scholarship Luncheon (photos below) and supported the scholarship winners. I know the students very much appreciated it. By Sam Currie, 461-0801 I hope you are all staying well, safe and hydrated while on the links during this heat wave. We are currently preparing for our Annual Charity Tournament and there are a few changes since my last article. Due to the golf course situation, it will only be for our membership - no guests will be invited. The tournament will be Tuesday, Oct. 4, and our two charities are Hospice of the Valley and Michelle's Place. We will have a scramble format and the cost will be $30 per person, which will include a nice lunch, open bar, and a donation to each charity. We will also have placards on each tee box honoring or in memory of someone for $30. Members can also make individual donations to each charity if they so choose. We will invite the representatives from each charity to attend the luncheon and talk about their organization. If you are interested in making a donation to either of these charities, you may contact me or the tournament host, Anita Hoetker at 949-842-4873. We have a very nice and fun group of ladies who enjoy golfing either 18 holes or 9 holes weekly. If you are interested in learning more about us, please contact our Membership Chair, Peggy Clendenen at 951-696-2169. We hope to see you on the links!
