HOA STAFF PROFILE: EUGENE W. PHILLIPS
By Joanne Deacon
One of Eugene W. Phillips' unique talents is his
amazing memory for music. Play any song and
he can name the title and singer or group, and
certainly the era. His recall for baseball statistics
is similar. In addition to his amazing memory,
his kind and caring nature is always evident to
our residents.
In Eugene W. Phillips' own words…
Good people of The Colony… My name is Eugene Phillips and
I have worked in The Colony Maintenance Department for 16
years and 9 months. The thing I like most about working at The
Colony is helping others and maintaining the Clubhouse. Prior to
working at The Colony, I worked for Canyon Lake Operations for
a little over 6 ½ years. I was born and raised in Lake Elsinore, CA
and graduated from Elsinore Union High School in 1977. When I
graduated high school, the number one song in America was "I'm
Your Boogie Man" by KC and the Sunshine Band.
The two things people find out about me right away are: 1) I
don't eat cheese, and 2) I don't go by Gene, it's Eugene. My next
Dodger game that I attend will be my 43rd in my lifetime. Thus
far, I have been to 42 Dodger games and out of those
games, they won 25 and lost 17. Attending Dodger
games will tie me with my number of visits to Las
Vegas. I enjoy going to the casinos from time to time
and playing Rapid Blackjack. One of my personal
hobbies is collecting currency of any denomination
where the first four numbers are 6744. You may
ask, why 6744? It is because those are the first four
numbers of my telephone number. So far, I have
collected 7 or 8 currencies with this numeric order and some day
I will find one that matches my phone number exactly (smile).
In my spare time, I enjoy taking long walks, reading, collecting
newspapers from other states, bowling and doing yard work. I
am a man of faith and have ties to the Catholic and Episcopal
Church and hope to someday get married. Many people find it
hard to believe that I am a Southern California native. People
have asked if I am from Pittsburgh, Illinois, Canada and even, of
all places, Syracuse, NY. Funny thing -- I have never been to any
of these places (lol). Someday, I would like to visit Massachusetts
or Vermont because they are both historic, beautiful and without
smog.
