FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2022 63 The month of September includes the last day of summer, so we may expect to see the hot weather eventually abate. For now however, we will continue to play shuffleboard on Monday and Saturday mornings at 8 am so that we are finished before the heat of the day sets in. For those of you who have been following the progress of the building of the new shuffleboard courts, they are essentially completed now. However, we have not started playing on them as we are waiting for the courts to be cleaned and for the purchase of a shed or storage bin to keep the equipment in the area. The last half of the wall that needed to be built to prevent the players and discs from falling down the existing incline at the back of the courts was completed and painted to match the grey of the other half of this wall, which was built out of concrete. After looking back at the past articles that I have written for the Breeze, I found the article that I wrote for the December, 2020 issue, announcing the Board of Directors final approval to build the four new shuffleboard courts at this new Lodge location. Of course there were months spent before this doing the planning for the site location, court design and getting bids. So this project is well over two years in the planning and construction. Shuffleboard is the perfect activity to enjoy outdoors while being physically active. It is an easy game to learn and one can become proficient at playing it fairly quickly. Our games usually last about an hour. We choose up different teams every time we play. This allows us to keep competition challenging and the games interesting. We play for fun, but of course everyone likes to win. We have a great group of residents, who play regularly, and of course, we are always looking for new people to join our "shuffleboard family." So after your morning coffee and/or breakfast, come out and join us. Get some fresh air and a little exercise while socializing with other Four Seasons residents. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me, Marty Rotman at (310) 948-1693 or email me at mrtmj@aol.com. Looking forward to seeing you at the courts and watch for an announcement of a "grand opening" and the beginning of play at the four new shuffleboard courts at The Lodge. The new courts are behind the swimming pool and next to the paddle tennis courts and in the location of the former horseshoe pits. ~ Marty Rotman Shuffleboard Ladies Putters Come and experience putting at the Courts on Monday at 4 pm and Friday at 9 am. If you would like to try us out, we have putters and balls. Jackie Morris is one of our original members from when we started back in 2016. She moved here from Rancho Cucamonga as a retired teacher of 36 years and has two very cute pooches, Duke and Misty. She is photographed at the new Top Golf facility in Ontario. As you can see, she won the raffle for three months golf membership which includes five more people to be in her membership group. The golf balls that you hit to aim for the targets amazingly record and add your points on the computer. There is also a restaurant and bar there. This was a fundraiser for the San Bernardino County Humane Society. Well done, Jackie! ~ Susan Wilson
