It is very tough to sit still during a concert like that. Such talented musical people who also appeared to enjoy what they were doing. Thank you all who attended and for "Keeping OHSPA Alive!" We have another talented group coming on Sat., Nov. 5, 2022. "The Reunion of the Doo Wop Stars" are sure to please everyone. You might ask "Who are the Doo Wop Stars?" How about The Diamonds, The Coasters, The Drifters with the Number One Doo Wop Band Billy and The Corvettes. Tickets will go on sale Tues., Oct. 4 in Abravanel Hall. Lisa Malec writes, "Hello OHCC residents! It has been a quiet summer for your Theatre Arts' Club, but we are already ramping up for amazing fall performances! Theatre Arts is very proud to present A Night at the Silent Movies a fabulous silent movie originally performed by Theatre Arts' members way back in October 2017. This very special movie will be shown on Mon., Sept. 5 at 7 pm. You MUST mark your calendars for the Theatre Arts' event on Mon., Oct. 3 at 7 pm. wWe welcome Adam Shapiro, of Billy Nation: A Tribute To Billy Joel fame, who will perform Billy Joel favorites on the piano. Adam is a really well-known San Diegan who has played at venues throughout Southern California, including our very own Belly-Up Tavern. Theatre Arts is working to bring new and exciting performers next year… here are just a few of the talented groups we hope to present: The Malone Academy of Irish Dance San Diego Youth Symphony Carlsbad High School Performing Arts San Diego Gay Men's Choir Center Stage Productions Sally Benton's Actors' Workshop actors, past and present, will be presenting an evening of live theatre on stage in Abravanel Hall Nov. 15, at 7 pm featuring numbers from well- known plays and musicals, performances from a variety of genres, such as "The Littlest Angel," "Greater Tuna," poetry by Billy Collins and Shel Silverstein, and the old favorite of "Who's on First." There will be a special salute for our American Veterans from "Stories That Must Be Told." Don't miss our long-awaited return to the live stage! Sally's classes are Wednesdays from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, in the Majorca Room. Please contact Sally (moki2@cox.net) for information. Jan Kawal announced the desire to form a Play Readers group. If you are interested and would like to participate, please email Jan (jjtravelnet@ gmail.com). Our next Board meeting will be Sept. 21 at 11 am. Check with the front desk for the room assignment. Thurs., Sept. 1 at 10:30 am marks our first rehearsal after our summer break. We invite all who are interested to come and join us (vaccinations and boosters required). Come join in on the fun. The goal is to prepare a concert for the community which will be performed in Abravanel Hall on Dec. 11. We love being able to perform for family, friends and neighbors. The Choral Society's Guest Artist Concert Series featuring Dr. Michael Munson was well received by our community. You can watch that concert on the OHCC Website under videos on demand. In addition, seats for our Sept. 10 concert featuring Bets Malone are going fast! Thank you for supporting the Choral Society in their mission to provide our community with music for the enrichment and education of our audience members and our community.
