| OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2022 | 19 Welcome fall, September has arrived. The weather is SoCal at its finest, and we are heading into the last quarter of the year. September brings the Recreation Department to the start of the reservation process. All clubs should submit their paperwork for their 2023 two special events. The order of priority starts with HOA business including Recreation, community wide performances, clubs, meetings, interest groups/classes/card players and private room rentals. Additional reservations can be made after all those listed are inputted. Please do not assume that a reservation is kept year to year, any reservation for 2023 will require the user to fill out a form and/or notify the Event Office, each reservation will receive a confirmation. Questions are encouraged. This is a daunting task but the staff is ready, willing and able. This is a first for us to provide a community wide program of this nature. Our "Cinema Under the Stars," Sat., Sept. 3 on the Pool Deck featuring a "Mama Mia" Sing-A-Long. Tickets are on sale for $5 including snacks, sodas, and popcorn. Pool will close at 6:30 pm and doors will open at 7 pm. Movie starts at 8 pm on a 33 ft. screen by the pool. Seating will be provided. Bring a comfortable lawn chair and BYOB, if desired. Water Volleyball Residents vs. Staff is on the calendar for Fri., Sept. 9 from 2 to 4 pm. The hours have changed for Water Volleyball, MWF, as we approach Daylight Savings Time ending in early November. Tri-City Medical Center is hosting 3 "Lunch and Lectures" beginning Fri., Sept. 9. A ticket to reserve lunch will be needed to attend. Tickets are available now to reserve a spot for the lecture. The topic covered will be "Aspects of Aging," hosted by two physicians, with a Q&A. The other two seminars are planned for Oct. 25 and Nov. 8. Tri-City Medical has worked with us to provide some excellent current medical procedures, with an array of topics over the years. The Annual Flea Market, sponsored by the Recreation Department will take place Sat., Sept. 17, sign-up for tables at the front desk. Event will take place within and around the Clubhouse, two table maximum, at no charge. We do have tables located on the Palm Court, if the desire is to be outside. The Garden Club will have their plant sale in the Overflow Parking Lot. Dust off those treasures and sell them to a neighbor and next year that neighbor will be selling that treasure to another neighbor. LOL! The League of Women Voters will be here on Thurs., Oct. 13 from 5 to 7 pm. Snacks will be provided to get through the dinner hour. They will present the current issues and provide a PowerPoint presentation. Ballots will be mailed out on Oct. 10, so the discussion is timely. This event is sponsored by the Community Services Committee (CSC). The CSC has spent a good part of their meetings, this year, hearing complaints from pool users. The CSC does recognize the need to inform and educate. Most of the matters can be addressed, simply, by respecting the rules and respecting each other. The Committee will be making a formal recommendation to the Master Board because they feel that something must be done to minimize the incidents. The Recreation Department has contracted with a band Hickory Wind for the Concert on the Green, scheduled now, for Sat., Oct. 15. Music to begin at 3:30 pm, due to daylight hours getting shorter. Children are welcome to attend. It is a family affair. R Dub Candle is offering a two-hour Candle Making Class. Sign up at the Clubhouse Sun., Oct. 23 at 1 pm. Cost of the class is $30. Sounds like a great activity to invite a new neighbor and learn together. A Facilities 40-hour position to include weekends is still open. A candidate is in process at this time. A part-time evening position is open for a receptionist. Janet Engleman has requested to be left on-call to spend time with family, as her daughter and new grandson came back from a three-year deployment in Japan. With fall's arrival we recognize that school is back in session for children. The streets and freeways are more congested. The new school year has always remained a cherished memory for most of us. But things have certainly changed, haven't they? How do you frighten the new generation? Put them in a room with a rotary phone, an analog watch, and a TV with no remote. Then leave directions on how to use in cursive. Isn't that the truth? Join us any time for the best display of active adults in Southern California at the Clubhouse. And why not hop on the shuttle to Julian, Wed., Sept. 28? Seating is limited, a $10 refundable deposit is required. The apples are ripe and ready, enjoy a cup of coffee and a slice of what Julian is famous for- Julian apple pie, nothing could be better! Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director
