| OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2022 | 39 Club hiking and walking activity has increased this summer. With the Hikers/ Walkers Club Board distinguishing between hikes and walks, and doing both activities separately, attendance for both has increased. A beach walk in July found 37 members heading out onto the sand, from Moonlight Beach to Beacon Beach, and return. Hikes have included the Thunder Mountain Spring Trail, and the Santa Margarita River Trail. A walk found several members in the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Preserve. A history of our Club was celebrated at a luncheon on the Lanai, 60 members attending. The highlight of the luncheon was honoring past strong leadership by Ed Gunderson, Bill Nupp, Tim Pentel, and Jack Shabel. Piano music was provided by resident Kurt Strohecker. Hosting the event were Lori Smith (treasurer), Gerry Livsey (secretary), and Herb Livsey (Vice President). Present Hike leader and Club President Rich Halkyard spoke. The August schedule included a hike to the lower Doane Valley and French Valley; another beach walk started in Cardiff at Sunset Beach, then past Fletcher's Cove South of Cardiff. September and October hikes and walks are being planned during the time of this writing. Anyone can go to the web site MeetUp, scroll to OHCC Walkers and Hikers.
