40 | OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2022 | Swim & Wellness Club Summer is the busiest time at the pool. Please be knowledgeable about all of the HOA rules that are in place. You can always call the Clubhouse front desk to clarify anything you're not sure about. A big topic lately has been guests at the pool. Any guest MUST be accompanied by a resident. Do not bring guests to the pool and then leave. And if your guest is using a lap lane during busy times when residents are waiting, remember that residents have first dibs. Another problem area has been children younger than five using the pool. Kids MUST be five or older to be anywhere in the pool area. Hours for kids between the ages of five and 14 are 11 am to 2 pm on weekdays and 11 am to 3 pm on weekends and holidays. You must be 14 or older to use the spa. Be considerate of all residents! Member Spotlight: Meet S & W Club's co-vice president Sara Stewart. Sara's love of the water started early as her dad was a charter member of the YMCA in Sara's hometown of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Swimming and diving lessons were a given, as well as attending a weekly Friday night Family Swim at the Y. She and husband Wayne Disch have been married for 43 years and have lived in Colorado, Montana and Wisconsin. They moved to OHCC from Green Bay in March of 2020, just two days before the shut-down. The main impetus for the move was to be closer to their two children. Their daughter escaped the frozen tundra 18 years ago, followed by their son 10 years ago, and finally Sara and Wayne got the message! Sara retired from a career of 32 years in education. She taught children with cognitive disabilities, was a reading specialist and also worked with gifted and talented kids. Sara took advantage of the offer of FREE swim lessons from our club shortly after the pool reopened. She wanted tips to perfect her strokes and to learn how to develop a swim workout. Her instructor Ken Krueger was both patient and encouraging. Sara also plays pickleball, hikes with the hiking club and is learning to play bocce. During football season, if you see a huge Green Bay Packer flag on the corner of Athos Way and Leisure Village Drive, you'll know who lives there! Our next member meeting will be Thurs., Sept. 15 at 1:30 pm on the Palm Court. We have an exciting speaker lined up and are narrowing down the topic. We know it will revolve around "wellness." Stay tuned for more information in your email inbox. S&W is looking for new members! Are you interested in being more involved in all pool-related issues? Want to learn more about health and wellness in our age group? Contact Sara Stewart at s.stewart1@att.net for more information. Or just drop off a $10 check made out to the OHCC Swim & Wellness club at the Clubhouse. Be sure to include name, address, phone and email. Swim Lessons: Have you ever wished that you knew how to swim? Or if you have a general idea of how to swim, have you ever wished that you knew if you were doing it correctly? You are in luck! Our club offers FREE instruction from our resident experts. Learn to improve your stroke, add proper breathing techniques or start as a beginner. There is no charge for this service and instructors will proceed at whatever pace is right for you. Email Ken Krueger for more information at k2krueger@ yahoo.com. ~ Co-VP Sara Stewart
