4 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | OCTOBER 2022 By Linda Weiss, Board Member As you may know, the Board members have been working on getting a crosswalk painted at the Paseo Crossing at Paseo Famosa. We have made some progress. The city has placed a work order to have a "Warning Pedestrian Crossing Ahead" sign placed on Paseo Famosa. The signs have been ordered, hopefully installation will be soon. We were told that a painted crosswalk gives the pedestrian a false sense of security. This project was initiated for the safety of our community residents as they crossed from one side of the Paseo to the other side at Paseo Famosa. Our concerns were that the added residential housing being built to the North and South of our community would bring added traffic on our streets and increase the possibilities of one of our residents or their dogs being hit by a speeding car there. I would also like to take this time to ask that our residents be mindful of the speed they are going when they drive our streets. Since I started this project, I have been more aware of the speed of the vehicles traveling down Paseo Famosa as I walk my dog every day. I have observe there are more vehicles traveling over the 25 MPH speed limit than not. I want to remind everyone that we live in a community of people that are no longer able to move quickly out of the way of a speeding vehicle. The speed limit on all of our streets is 25 MPH. There are no painted crosswalks anywhere in our community but we have residents walking and crossing streets everywhere. I want to ask all of our residents to please be aware and vigilant of your driving speed and the people crossing the streets, especially on Paseo Famosa. At that crossing there is a blind curve and you can't always see if someone is walking in the street. They can't see you until its too late. If we drive safely, maybe the people who don't live in our community will follow our lead. Who knows, they may even decide that going down Fisher is faster than traveling through our community. I want to thank you for helping make our streets safe. My dog thanks you also. Community Safety Community Updates CERT At Work By Daniel Mendez, EPAC Chair The Fairview Fire in Hemet started Sept. 5 around 3:45 pm. On Tuesday morning September 6th, I received a call from Jay Cregeen, at the Hemet Fire Department asking our resident CERTs (Certified Emergency Response Team) for help at the care and reception center set up at Tahquitz High School in Hemet. Our volunteers were on site within a half hour lending assistance to the Red Cross and giving comfort to the evacuees. Throughout the day I continued receiving calls from our CERT residents signing up to volunteer after receiving the SDV community blast. At the time of this writing the fire is spreading to 29,000 acres and still only 5% contained. I have received calls from Jay Cregeen and the Red Cross thanking us for our help. I would like to give special recognition to Edith Reed, Diana Carofano, Dorie Theel, Don and Susan Briggs, Rick and Ann Wind, Sharon Wynn, Frank and Hilary Ross, Shirley Ferruzzi, Karen Stepp, Bob Rajsky, Neal and Cindi Anderson, Clare Mendez and those who have volunteered after the deadline for this article. The work was not strenuous or difficult. The Red Cross needed help organizing the entry paperwork as well as passing out water and snacks to evacuees. Some were in wheel chairs or walkers and needed light assistance to walk to the rest rooms or set up their sleeping cots. The people who are evacuated from their homes appreciate all the people who welcomed them and listened to their woes and gave them comfort. I encourage anyone who is not a CERT at this time to look into attending the free classes given by the local fire departments. When I have more information on upcoming classes I will send out a Blast to the community. • The retrofit lighting project in the lobby has been completed using LED lights. • The indoor pool container hydraulics have been repaired. • A motion detector has been installed in the pool breezeway. • Violations: Opened- 34 ; Closed- 11
