| LIFE IN SOLERA | OCTOBER 2022 | 31 "Giving is a booster for your sense of well- being. It gets the focus away from what you don't have and onto what you do." If you are a happy, outgoing and energetic individual who is looking for a way to be of service here in our Solera community, the Sunshine Club is the club for you. When a resident is ill, we send cards to cheer them. For an overnight hospital stay or a death in the immediate family, we deliver flowers or fruit baskets. The funds we reap from our recycling efforts pay for these gifts. SUNSHINE CLUB QUILTERS We meet each Monday at 12 pm in the Arts & Crafts Room. New residents who share an interest in quilting are welcome. September was a busy month for our quilters. Many continue to make quilts supporting Ukraine. Several of our ladies took a class that taught the Sashiko method of embroidery. We had a "swap" meet. Ladies brought stuff from their stashes they no longer felt they needed. It was a fun swap and we all had fun getting rid of things and obtaining things we always wanted but did not want to buy. Pat R.'s daughter displayed an incredible quilt entitled "Primitive Gatherings." It was all hand appliqued; each 12 inch block with a 36 inch spectacular center square. Claudette demonstrated a new Christmas Tree quilted ornament. Ladies brought their sewing machines and followed her directions to create adorable tree ornaments. Linda, our "leader" gave us our challenge for 2023. Lots of excitement going forward with this project. Gals continue to amaze us with their talents and their ability to find new items to make quilting more (if that's possible) fun. Latest goodie – a palm thimble. New residents – if you love quilting, join us for the fun. RECYCLING REMINDERS! It is important to remember that all plastic water bottles, juice and tea drink bottles as well as all aluminum cans (for which you paid the redemption fee) are recyclable for cash. Each recyclable item is clearly imprinted on its label or side with the words CA-CRV or CA CASH REFUND. Other containers such as milk, peanuts, mouthwash as well as metal cans other than aluminum such as cat food are not recyclable for cash and should go into your appropriate Waste Management cans. Our Club meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 2 pm in the Arts & Crafts Room. If you have any questions, you may contact Judy Charlick at (951) 769-6465.
