HOA NEWS | THE COLONY NEWS | OCTOBER 2022 | 3 From the Desk of Walt Bowman Aloha and Sayonara, By the time you read this, the 2022 HOA elections are over and the new Board is installed. Regardless of how you voted, now is the time to put past differences behind and to support the new leadership team. This will also be my final time as President to pen my name to the "From the Desk of." For the past 20 years, it has been my privilege to have served you numerous times as a member of the Board and on at least seven occasions to represent you as President of the Board. Here in The Colony, there can be no higher calling than to be a Board member, keeping in mind our primary duty is to protect home values, our community lifestyle, and the fiscal responsibilities to each homeowner. This has often proven to be a challenge given the nature of HOAs, the changing nature of the residents, the political climate both inside The Colony and the country, the pocketbook issues of the community, and the lifestyle demands of our residents. However, your elected Directors have always risen to these demands and acted in a prudent and responsible manner. There are times we may have fallen short, but our shortcomings were never deceitful or devious. Your HOA Boards since the inception of The Colony in 1989 have been truthful, transparent, and cognitive of your financial status in budget preparation and business transactions. Walking the fine line for 1,586 households and recognizing the diverse community wherein we live has at all times kept us focused on your interests. In retrospect, thinking back on the past 20 years of peaks and valleys, I am amazed at the versatility and camaraderie displayed by our community. The golf course saga of all these years, the Clubhouse renovation and the Pool Pavilion are mere examples of all that is good despite differing opinions. The Colony has a way of rallying and pulling together when issues that might divide us are instead pillars of strength in building a cohesive membership. Thank you for welcoming Emilie and myself into your midst, often reaching out to us during trying times, and supporting us during times of duress. Each of you in your own way have been a blessing and have enriched our lives since 1995 when we purchased our first home here. Little did we understand then, but now realize, how you richly impacted our lives for the better. We love each of you and are so thankful for this journey of LOVE and mercy you've bestowed upon us. It is with tears in our eyes, and peace in our hearts that we look forward to the future and all that the Lord has in mind for the Bowmans. Sayonara! By Walt Bowman, HOA President
