FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2022 45 Country Line Dancing We are now back to full classes every Tuesday. The very beginner class is coming along nicely after three weeks and many are doing fabulous. Learning a new dance takes patience and additional practice once you leave the class. With each new dance the basic steps become more familiar and easier to do. Again, I want to extend a very big thank you to those who kept the classes going while Elizabeth and I were out: Mary Christelman, Cindy Schwinn, Lori Cross, Debbie Aiello, Doug and Cathe Streuber, and others who stepped up to help. Our group loves to dance, and they reviewed the dances and kept the music going. Our next big event is our Holiday Party on Saturday, Nov. 12. This will be a catered event and BYOB. Please watch for additional information and details in the Activities Blast and on the lobby TVs. An email will be sent to everyone in the classes with details. Music will be provided by Elizabeth and Phillip Westbrook. So, mark your calendars and let's dance the night away. Hope to see you on the dance floor. ~ Martha Franck, marthafranck@icloud.com, (714) 345-8588 Let's Dance! October is RUMBA month! The Rumba is considered to be one of the most beautiful Latin style dances, earning its nickname as "The Dance of Love." It is characterized by swaying hips, a still upper body, and close partner connections. Although it is traditionally danced to slow Latin music, it is now common to dance the Rumba to current, popular ballads. Because of this, the Rumba is a popular style choice for a wedding dance, and slow partner dancing. The Rumba originated among the African slaves in Cuba in the 16th century. It began as a fast and sensual dance with exaggerated hip movements. The dance was said to be representing the male pursuit of a woman and the music played with a staccato (clipped) beat to keep time with the expressive movements of the dancers. The Rumba is a favorite for dance instructors and new dancers alike for the forgiving slower pace of the dance's steps and music. It is easy on the body and easy to learn! Rumba provides a great starting point for the foundational moves with social Latin dancing. Following are some popular songs that the Rumba can be danced to: What's Going On, Marvin Gaye The Way You Look Tonight, Michael Bublé The Girl from Ipanema, Bebel Gilberto Sway, Dean Martin I Wanna Go Home, Michael Bublé It's Now or Never, Elvis Presley Besame Mucho, Andrea Bocelli And I Love Her, Paul McCartney Please come and join us! We meet in The Lodge Ballroom every Monday evening with open practice and review from 6 to 6:30 pm. Beginner class is from 6:30 to 7:05 pm with intermediate class from 7:05 to 8:05 pm. The cost is only $10 per person for professional instruction and you are welcome to stay for the entire class. For more information, please contact Sue Condurachi at (951) 381- 4049 or Brian Fusilier at (909) 215-2778. ~ Lisa Johnson
