FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2022 53 Throughout September, we studied Proverbs Chapters 1-8. First we determined that a Proverb is a wise saying, in sometimes pithy verbiage. We know that the Proverbs in the Bible were written by Solomon, but we were informed that only Proverbs Chapters 1-9 were actually written and included by him. Proverbs Chapters 10-22 were compiled by Solomon as the "sayings of the wise," meaning there were other wise people who contributed to this book. Proverbs Chapters 25-29 were written by Solomon, but after his death were added to Proverbs by King Hezekiah of Judah. We learned that knowledge and understanding is a priority to wisdom — in fact, we must learn and then understand what we have learned before we use both to gain wisdom in that regard. We learned that God is the source of all wisdom, and has gifted that wisdom to His children. We learned what the ethical four corners of life are: wisdom, justice, judgment and equity and we studied what each term means in relation to the Proverbs. We also learned the difference between wisdom and folly — folly being defined as everything opposite to wisdom, and also that the heart is the depository for all wisdom and the source of whatever affects an individual's speech, sight and conduct. In fact, in concise terms, knowledge can be defined as knowing what to say, but wisdom determines whether or not to say it. In Proverbs 6:16-19, we learned the seven things or traits the Lord hates. Are you guilty of any of them? We understood that wisdom should become part of who we are. Since wisdom is practical and applies to everything in life, the Book of Proverbs is a Godly guide to live life to the fullest and in the interim to get along with our fellow humans. If you would like to learn along with us, this study is attended by beautiful and amazing Godly women, is non-denominational, and any version of the Bible is acceptable.
