Ring the bell when you succeed and receive a round of applause. Accountability works! • Get your day started with new resolve and time to do something. • Find walking buddies. • Be inspired by others' achievements. "If they can do it, so can I." • Learn about the latest scientific evidence about longevity and healthy eating. • Taste low-cal snacks occasionally. • Learn about places to shop and enjoying new foods in our area. • Go to workshops and rallies, if you choose, for big motivation. • Receive a free monthly magazine with inspiring stories, recipes, motivation, exercises, and lot more. • Participate in fun contests for prizes. • But most of all, stop the guilt because you are trying to achieve something worthwhile for those you love and for yourself. For more info, call Andi Henderson (918) 497-6491. ~ Andi Henderson We're so excited the Board approved our charter! We are officially the Snail Painting group and have nearly 100 members. Snail painting is an ancient Sumeric art that originated as the Sumerians considered them a god. The snail was dubbed "The God of Patience and Revenge" and they (the snails) would be carried in sacks that attached to the belts of warriors when they engaged in battle. During the battle, the soldier would wait for the right time to strike the enemy (patience) and then when they triumphed in battle, would force their enemy to take their body armor off and throw them into nearby volcanoes (revenge). While the opposing soldier stood there naked, the warrior would pull the beautifully (and sometimes terrifyingly) painted snail from his bag and wave it in front of his opponent's face while making mocking noises, akin to "neener neener neener" in our culture. Our speaker for our next meeting on Oct. 15, 1 pm, in the Arts & Crafts Room, will be Dr. Dunagin Flossipad, Ph.D. who will speak about the many temples that were built to honor the snail and the recently-discovered snail burial shrines in Chile. Please join us for the presentation which will be followed by snail painting. BYOS and paint. Refreshments will be provided. And remember, Just Say No - To Es Car Go! ~ Dally McSlug Snail Squad Diane Ed
