14 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2022 | Sun Lakes Committee Reports Sun Lakes Country Club has many golf opportunities for residents. There are women and men's golf clubs for both the Championship and Executive courses. These clubs operate much like what one would think of as a traditional golf club with monthly tournaments for members. There is a Couples Golf Club on the Championship Course and the Saturday Morning Golf Group on the Executive Course. Both of these clubs are open to all Sun Lakes residents. The Saturday group loves to refer to their club as more of a social club than a golf club. All these clubs are run by Boards comprised of members elected by the club membership and hold golf events with a variety of formats. Monthly tournaments held by these clubs comprise individual, twosome and foursome team formats to appeal to a wide audience of golfers. The opportunity to get involved is only limited by a resident's interest to participate and share their ideas for fun golf. In addition to the various golf clubs, there are numerous golf activities for residents to take part in even if you are not a regular golfer. Pass Putters takes place once a month on Friday on the Championship putting green. This is an 18-hole putting-only event run by the Pro Shop staff. A new event called Pitch, Putt, Play will be taking place monthly on Tuesday on the Executive Course on a trial basis through the fall. This will involve pitching the ball a short distance onto the green and then putting out. Both of these events are designed to encourage resident golfers and non-golfers to get involved. Throughout the year, the Pro Shop runs events such as the Nine and Dine and Horse Race for the benefit of all residents in the community. Additionally, various charity and group golf tournaments are held annually. Golf is a great way to get involved in the country club community you moved into. It's a great way to meet new friends and create lasting relationships that are especially valuable in a 55+ community. The goal is to have a variety of golf activities so that every resident can have an opportunity to participate. All the information regarding these golf clubs and golf events can be found on our various info sharing platforms. Flyers and signup sheets for these activities can be found in the Pro Shop. If you have questions about golf at Sun Lakes, drop into the Pro Shop today and talk to one of our knowledgeable golf staff. Golf Advisory Wai Fong Lee Au (Betty) has been our efficient Restaurant Hostess for more than 16 years here at SLCC. Betty was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to the United States over 30 years ago and has lived in the Pass Area with her husband ever since. When Betty's not at work, she enjoys traveling, especially cruising, singing, spending time with her extended family in Los Angeles, and visiting the many Chinese markets there. Our Betty is trilingual, fluently speaking Mandarin, Cantonese, and English. New to SLCC is Joseph Johnson, our Food and Beverage Manager, who has been active in the Food & Beverage industry for more than 30 years, from casual dining to highly-rated country clubs. If you have a question, or a request about service or your meal, Joe will happily address it. Joe has multiple passions in addition to fine dining management. You may recognize Joe's distinctive voice. Many of us listen to audio books. Just one example, have you listened to The Ballad of Johnny Wales (author Justin C. Trout)? Joe brings the written word alive as an audiobook narrator and commercial voice actor. He also loves playing the drums and Poker (Texas Hold-em). All secondary to his being a full-time husband, dad and grandad. So glad Joe has joined our SLCC family. Arianah Roush, our Restaurant Hostess, has a beautiful unique name. Her mother didn't want an ordinary name for her new daughter. Customer (or, in our case member) services, is her top priority. Arianah's first experience hosting was as a teenager she decided then to make it her career. It is very obvious that she is an exceptional person who strives to make everyone that enters our Restaurant feel special. Arianah and her husband of 10 years enjoy visiting Disneyland with their two little princess daughters. Her hobbies are very creative and include the unique art of wreath making, hand lettering, and calligraphy, in addition to lots of special DIY projects with her two girls. Arianah goes the extra mile to make your dining experience enjoyable. I'll be highlighting more standout SLCC bright stars each month. ~ Carole Elliott Sun Lakes Standouts: Recognizing Those Who Serve Wai Fong Lee Au (Betty), Joe Johnson, and Arianah Roush
