The next meeting will be Fri., Oct. 28 at 11 am in the South Clubhouse and the fun is all about Halloween. The members will be competing for different prizes for costume creativity and providing us with their favorite Halloween recipes. At the prior meeting, the members delved into Mediterranean cuisine, which was furnished by our members, and, WOW. Mary Miller provided us with her homemade Baklava, DELICIOUS. A very special thanks to our guest speaker and world traveler Anita Lawrence (photo inset), for her wonderful presentation on her travels to several Mediterranean countries. She also shared a very special recipe she obtained during her travels of Pastel De Nata, Portuguese Custard Tarts. Sending hugs to member Wendy Ditchfield for making us the adorable Happy Cookers Chef hats for our monthly drawings. This was a truly great meeting. The Happy Cookers were thrilled to hold a baking contest for apple pie and apple cobbler in September. The contest was judged by the Riley's from Oak Glen, and the best part of all, the winning recipe will be featured in the Sun Lakes Restaurant for the entire month of October. The winning recipe will be recreated by our very own Chef Chris Rubino and his pastry Chef Michael. Be sure and ask for it in the restaurant as your dessert choice! At the time this goes to print we don't have the winner's name, but they will be announced in next month's Lifestyles and posted on Good Day Sun Lakes, channel 97 and the Sun Lakes website. You can also view the contest on those channels. The Happy Cookers will be selling their famous Nuts on The Run in the in October, just in time for Halloween! What a great healthy treat at only $5 a bag.
