34 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2022 | REMINDER: Our next gathering is on Oct. 1 and features Ellen and Dix Henneke, or Elixir, for those who have signed up and paid. Our September get-together was our biggest ever (and our first sold-out event) and featured Ray Roberson and his wife LaWanda. They were the group Bad Influence who sang in the Lounge for so many years and absolutely one of the favorites. They are so fabulous and came out of retirement especially for our 80s Club, and they are truly appreciated. They sang a lot of old favorites: Put Your Head on My Shoulder, Dream Lover, Sixteen Candles, Breaking Up is Hard To Do, The Wanderer, Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, Stagger Lee and more. Ray's voice is so smooth and silky, and the harmonies with his wife are truly lovely. They were such a huge hit that the crowd asked for a tip jar for them, which surprised our entertainers, and I think they were touched by it. Thank you very much, Ray and LaWanda – we love you! The 80s Plus Club is a social club and we have a once-a- month gathering to socialize, have a catered meal, enjoy first-rate entertainment, and to be pampered. It is for those 80 years old and above along with their spouses or significant others and/or guests (no matter their ages). But you're welcome if you're close in age as well. The good news and the bad news for our club is that we have been growing so fast that we have more than doubled in the past year. Unfortunately, that means that we have reached a point of limited availability where we need to limit attendance at each gathering. This September gathering was the first time we had to close the event and actually turn people away who wanted to attend. So please sign up early. When we reach capacity, we will take the box away and have a note out saying the event is full. Our November get together will be on Sat., Nov. 5. The deadline for signing up for that one is Oct. 29. It will be at 3 pm in the South Clubhouse so don't forget to get your checks to Donna Harrington at 5393 Riviera. Please make your checks out to 80s Plus Club, dinners are $16 each and our dues are $10 per year. 80s Plus Club Wine Club The Wine Club will be hosting "Grape Expectations" on Wed., Nov. 16 from 5 until 9 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. The evening will include a plated three-course dinner with a fall harvest salad, bacon-wrapped stuffed pork tenderloin, roasted red potatoes, brussel sprouts and finished off with a crème brulee' cheesecake. Each table will also enjoy two bottles of Chardonnay, two bottles of Cabernet and a bottle of White Port. The price for this evening of music, fine wine and food is $60 per person and will also include your dues for 2023. In addition, there will also be a drawing for the beautiful fall centerpiece on each table. Seating will be limited, so don't delay in making your reservation. The deadline for reservations is Nov. 8. Attire for the evening is country club casual. Seating will be at tables of eight. For those who wish to sit together, please submit your checks together in an envelope. Checks can be dropped off to the Wine Club's Treasurer at 4883 Copper Creek Drive. Tables will be reserved when you make your reservation; there's no need to arrive early as you will have a place to enjoy the evening with your friends and other members of the Wine Club. For info, call President Karen Clavelot at (951) 330-0531. Grape Expectations
