| OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2022 | 19 This is a great month for party themes, all resident event planners can really get creative with decorations. October brings a number of events that we can all look forward to. On Halloween Eve, Oct. 30, we have a group of Trick or Treaters, including grandchildren meeting at the Clubhouse at 5 pm to go to sponsoring homes. If you're interested in participating, please call the Clubhouse for more information. The Recreation Department will host a "Halloween Hoot" on Mon., Oct. 31, showing the movie Hocus Pocus starting at 2 pm in the Majorca Room. "You're in for a devil of a time when three outlandishly wild witches — Bette Midler (Beaches, Big Business), Sarah Jessica Parker (Honeymoon In Vegas), and Kathy Najimy (Sister Act) — return from 17th-century Salem after they're accidentally conjured up by some unsuspecting pranksters! It's a night full of zany fun and comic chaos once the tricky 300-year-old trio sets out to cast a spell on the town and reclaim their youth — but first they must get their act together and outwit three kids and a talking cat!" Loaded with bewitching laughs, Hocus Pocus is an outrageously wild comedy that's sure to entertain everyone! Producer David Kirschner came up with the idea for the movie one night while he and his young daughter were sitting outside and his neighbor's black cat strayed by. Refreshments will be served and staff will be in costume. Residents are certainly welcome to dress in their Halloween garb. Seating is limited. The League of Women Voters has volunteered to visit OHCC on Oct. 13, 5 to 7 pm. Refreshments will be provided. They will discuss important issues on the ballot. It will be timely as the ballots are expected to be mailed out on Oct. 10. Their mission statement reads: The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Remember to VOTE on Tues., Nov. 8. Tri-City Medical Center will be coming again on Thurs., Oct. 25 and providing a box lunch for those that pick up a ticket to make their reservation. Over 100 residents attended the last lecture and this next time the medical team will be providing orthopedic physicians to address health related concerns and questions. The Concert on the Green on Oct. 15 is moving forward, as the Front 9 of our Golf Course opened for play in September. We had a Plan B in our back pockets, but this makes for a better event in so many ways. 'Kind of a time for celebration, finally, we are all getting together for some music and dancing. Remember the event starts earlier, the band begins playing at 3:30 pm. Bring food, family, and friends. Some seating will be made available, in the outlying recreational areas. Most bring their lawn chairs. See you on the Green! We are seeing a number of new faces coming into the Clubhouse. We would encourage new residents attend a scheduled Resident Orientation. They are offered four times a year and they help to learn how the community functions. The Clubhouse offers club memberships, but our Nubees group is a chance for individuals to break the ice with neighbors. The Nubees meet regularly and over the years they have evolved in bringing neighbors together, in an informal setting with no agenda. Check out the racks in the information hallway for more information. Reservations 2023 are in process. Our next group of reservations will be our interest groups, which includes card playing. Outside the Event Coordinators' office, a table will be set up with the forms needed to make this reservation. This will be a reminder that a form is due from every group to secure their space. A lottery date will be publicized and the requests will be inputted in the order they are chosen. Welcome to our newest staff member, Julian Velasco. He has joined our Facilities crew, working the afternoon shift and on weekends. He says he likes to be called "J." Happy Halloween to ALL! See you somewhere in the Clubhouse.
