38 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2022 | What a time to join! The Ocean Hills Sailing Club has completed yet another month of wonderful sails including ocean sails, bay sails and sunset sails. The club has learned that its sailboats can anchor just off the coast near the Rady Shell, allowing OHSC sailors to relax and enjoy the entertainment from the boat. With a slightly later departure time from OHCC, an outing might involve a harbor sail followed by dockside dinner or happy hour at one of the local sail-up restaurants and a brief sail over to the Rady Shell to enjoy a performance. After motoring back to the dock later in the evening, the sailors will make their way back to OHCC to conclude another magnificent day on the water with friends and neighbors. OHSC Fleet Captain Charlie Cappello has arranged for the club to access larger sailboats. While typically a crew of seven sails on a Catalina 29, we can now take an additional member and upgrade to a bit roomier Catalina 32 at a modest subscription rate increase. The club has sails planned for October and will soon be announcing its scheduled November sails. We will have completed 64 sails through the end of October. With 15 or more sails expected in November and more anticipated in December our year-end total number of sails may exceed 80. A club record was already achieved earlier in the season, and it may actually be tripled by the end of the season. Our membership continues to rise. As of the end of August, the club boasted a record 204 members of which 72 are new this year. With so many exciting successful outings, it is no wonder that our membership continues to grow, and it is not too late to join this year. The club's officers work hard to ensure everyone gets to sail, so don't be turned off by the time of the year. Our second big social event of the year, "Starry Night," a semi-formal dinner/dance, is set for Oct. 28. We expect a huge turnout of our fellow sailors. Fair winds and following seas… Sailing Club
