42 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2022 | Calorie Free Happy Hour If you are interested in improving strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and overall body conditioning, then you may want to consider attending an aerobics class to see if it fits your needs. This is an all standing low impact class… NO JUMPING! Christine leads each class in a warm up session followed by the aerobic session, and then she does a cool down. We use light weights for the last 10 minutes of the class. Christine sometimes adds a few exercises for balance and an easy dance for fun. Classes are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in Abravanel Hall from 10 to 11 am with instructor Christine Alesiani. You can choose the number of classes each week that you would like to attend. (There is no class available on the second Wednesday of each month.) The cost is $5 cash per class paid directly to the instructor. You can pay for and try two classes without joining the club. The annual club dues are $6 (please make the check payable to OH Aerobics). Please contact Margie Raisigel (club president) if you have any questions call (760) 855-8838 or sungee@pacbell.net. Tai Chi originated in ancient China as one of its martial arts, the gentle one. It consists of exercises totally performed on one's feet while the body generally moves in serenity. Classes have been meeting at OHCC twice a week for almost a decade. The classes were initiated by Lai Mei and Dennis Strauss who still participate in them and keep track of their maintenance. There is no formal teaching, one learns and performs by following a video placed in front of the class. Aerobics Tai Chi Exercise up to four times each week in the Clubhouse. We added a Friday class starting Sept. 9, 2022. There are three one-hour Chair Yoga classes per week. Come early from 11 to 11:15 am to sign up in the lobby. We hope you can join us on Monday, Wednesday and our new added Friday class for one hour from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm to keep your body fit. You sit in a chair and an experienced instructor, Cheryl Todd of Harmony Grove, leads you from the stage to do Yoga stretches with your legs and arms for 45 minutes. Then you may stand behind the chair to practice your balance holding on to the chair. If you wish you had better balance this class is for you. Your first class is free, and only $5 per class after that. In addition, we have a Chair-to-Mat Yoga class on Tuesday from 8 to 9 am using a chair for 30 minutes and then a mat on the floor. This class is taught by our own OHCC Resident Tatis Cervantes- Aiken for FREE in the Clubhouse. Please come early since the class fills up quickly and only 15 people can exercise at one time in the space provided in the Lamia room. Senior Fitness Club
