| OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2022 | 17 For a change of pace, OHCC Wine Tasting Club Group #5, the Cru Crew, visited the tasting room for Burtech Family Vineyard, at 1325 Pipeline Drive in Vista, a short distance from the Melrose/Sycamore intersection. Group member Randi Ryan, who is a member of Burtech's club, acted as host. We brought our own appetizers and snacks, and Burtech provided everything else we needed, although we did provide utensils. We were outside in comfortable seating under a cover that blocked some of the August sun. One benefit was that Burtech provided lots and lots of drinking water! It helped. It's something we should do in our tastings. We tasted five wonderful wines, in one-ounce pours. The first was 2021 Serafina, Brut Rosé ($42, member price $35.70). This was a sparkling wine, as we often have for a welcome wine. It was made of pure pinot noir. The most common remark was something like "I don't really like Rosé, but I like this." Our second (and only white) wine was the 2019 Julie Chardonnay, Carneros, ($52, member price $44) a creamy full-bodied Chard aged 60% on Stainless and 40% on French Oak. The first of three reds were the 2020 Russian River Pinot Noir ($63, member price $53.55), with bright red fruit, flavors of cola, tobacco, and light spice. Goes down very easily. Next, we had the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma ($60, member price $51), full bodied but not overpowering, with flavors of ripe plum, Cassis, and Kirsch. Our final pour was the 2019 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon ($68, member price $57.80), from a little farther south, a little more sun. It is full-bodied with dark fruit aromas with hints of vanilla and black tea. While the wines at Burtech are a bit more expensive than we are used to, their club offers better prices and a free glass or wine flight (two-ounce pours) for yourself and a guest once weekly. That's a pretty good deal. The club requires a two-bottle monthly shipment (or pickup) starting at $68 and up, depending what bottles are selected. If you are interested, more information is available at their website: burtechfamilyvineyard.com. The OHCC Wine Tasting Club is open to all residents. We have monthly tastings in members' homes, and sometimes in other locations. Annual dues are $12. Wine Tasting Club Genealogy Interest Group The Genealogy Interest Group is a growing group of individuals who want to find out about their heritage and their ancestry. Curiosity about those who came before and formed us is important. The group provides tools to do your research and help in getting started. For the experienced we can offer suggestions to break through the brick walls of past generations. Meeting with others looking in the same geographical areas is a great help. We have both Apple computers and PCs. There will be help sessions on Fri., Oct. 14 and Sat., Oct. 29 at 10 am in the Computer Room. All sessions can be seen on the TAG calendar. We are happy to offer the World Explorer version of Ancestry. com free of charge in the Computer Room. This program would cost an individual about $100 a month. We also offer the Family Tree Maker on several of the computers in the lab. A family tree can be started and compiled with either or both of these programs with many hints to assist in your research. Coordinators are Dorothy Miller and Peggy Singh. Contact us at rootsatOHCC@ gmail.com.
