| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | NOVEMBER 2022 | 11 OHANA: A Hawaiian Luau — A Community Celebration The tone was set as guests arrived. They were greeted by a Hawaiian entertainer wearing a lava-lava strumming his ukulele with an "aloha" welcome. Entering the Ohana (plaza) through tikis, floral display, and torches, the guests enjoyed the smells of teriyaki chicken being grilled, and the sounds of delightful Hawaiian music. The community inspected the presentation of the roasted pig as it was carried by "warriors" (residents dressed in lava-lava). Guests took a cruise of the Polynesian islands through the various dance forms from Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti, and New Zealand: the hula, heiva, slap dance and the fire dance. It was a wonderful celebration of sights, smells, and sounds. Upcoming Events: Holiday Luncheon: The biennial Holiday Luncheon will be held on Thurs., Dec. 15. We need hosts and hostesses to make the centerpieces. If you sign up to do this, you will have the first opportunity to pick your table and to reserve seats at that table. Please sign up by calling Chris Sullivan at (951) 926-6019 or Mary Swinney at (714) 328-6426 by Sun., Nov. 6. Tickets are $26 and go on sale Wed., Nov. 9 at the front desk. Entertainment, games, lunch (tortilla wraps, potato salad and a snowy dessert) and a spokesperson from My City Youth Center will be there. My City Youth Center is a non-profit organization located in Hemet which provides a safe place for at-risk youth ages eight to 18 to gather. This is our charity for this event, so please bring a check or some cash to donate to this great organization. New Year's Eve: Get your table guests put together, freshly press that suit, shake out that dress (or buy one), accessorize, and dust off the dancing shoes. The commencement of 2023, the New Year's Eve celebration, Feathers & Fedoras, promises to be an outstanding event. Entertainment includes the Silver Screen Crooners with songs from the 40s, 50s and 60s; and, finish the evening dancing to the ever-popular music of The Lifetime Rockers. Dinner will be provided by Francisco and guests will have a choice of one of the following: Prime Rib, salmon, Champagne chicken, or a vegetarian dinner. A great evening to invite the new year for the price of $90 per person. Tickets go on sale at 8 am, on Nov. 16. Due to the capacity of our Ballroom, only 200 tickets will be sold. On Dec. 31, doors will open at 5:30 pm and the program begins at 6 pm. Based on previous experiences, the Four Seasons Ballroom will be fabulously decorated and welcoming for the new year with two celebrations: at 9 pm and at midnight. See you there!
