24 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | NOVEMBER 2022 | You are reading this after the Fair has occurred. In my time the Fair will be next week! Our Fair committee has worked hard to provide fun for our residents. I need to thank our leader, Debbie Foster, for involving the Garden Club and Quilt Club! And, Beth Flanigan, for providing the corn hole game! Four Seasons is the best. We had a wonderful speaker, Maggie Fussell, of Hemet Hospice Youth Bereavement Groups, speak about a volunteer program that provides support for children who have lost a close family member. Training is provided. It involves giving 45-60 minutes of your time weekly, for six weeks. Call Debbie for more info. Debbie Foster, (805-406-6581), our president, welcomes telephone calls with any questions about our club. Debbie is ending her presidential run this December. I think she has been a "hands on" leader and we will miss her. Thank you for your leadership, Debbie! We needed functions that were close to home. September was a hot month. Movies are back to a starting time of 2 pm or later, and the selection has been lacking. A game day was planned by Lucille where members played "Right/Left/Center" and a card game. Following that, a Drum Circle (photo inset above), was led by Debbie's husband, Larry, demonstrating how to play them. A picture is inserted to share this experience. Sheryl Cooley is so devoted to our Valley Restart program. Not only does she provide us with what they need, she delivers our donations. Currently they are in need of all paper goods, especially napkins. Also, disposable plastic tableware. Thank you Sheryl! We are planning upcoming outings. The Old Town Temecula Theater will be playing the Nutcracker ballet in December. The weather is going to be perfect for a trip to Oak Glen for apple pie! And, better movies are coming. Have a great idea? Be there the fourth Monday at 2 pm and share your idea. Members of our club can join us on our outings. No guests please. You can be a one-time guest at our monthly meetings. To be a member, you pay your yearly dues and come to our monthly meetings when possible. Until next month, Cookie FS Ladies Club Needle Me I would like to begin this article by thanking Merilyn Burnside for this beautiful picture and explaining the numerous needlework techniques used in making this adorable rabbit. This photo from Inspirations Magazine shows several different needlework techniques, some of which are explored in our group. Knitting: A method by which yarn is manipulated to create a textile or fabric, by hand or machine. Crochet: A process of creating textiles by using a Hook to interlock loops of yarn, thread, or strands of other materials. Embroidery: The craft of decorating fabric or other materials using a needle to apply thread or yarn. It may also incorporate other materials such as pearls, beads, quills, and sequins. Applique: Applique is ornamental needlework in which pieces or patches of fabric in different shapes and patterns are sewn or stuck onto a larger piece to form a picture or pattern. Needlepoint: A type of canvas work, a form of embroidery in which yarn is stitched through a stiff open weave canvas. Stumpwork: Also referred to as raised work is a style of embroidery in which the stitched figures are raised from the surface of the work to form a three- dimensional effect. So many types and skills of Needlework. We also do some hand quilting and sashiko. Come join us to see what we are up to now. We meet on the first and fourth Friday of each month in the Arts & Crafts Room at 1 pm. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Bobbie Davis at (951) 223-3836 or Merilyn Burnside at (951) 658-8310. Book Club All readers interested in great discussions, occasional guest speakers, and movies, join us the third Monday of every month. Our book for December is The Rose Code by Kate Quinn.
