26 | THE COLONY NEWS | NOVEMBER 2022 | Petal Pushers Garden Club By Jane Payne Save the date! The November Petal Pushers meeting has been moved to Tuesday, Nov. 8, from noon to 2 pm in the Annex for a hands-on workshop to decorate a pumpkin with succulents. Veronica Guzman, owner of Garden Vibes Nursery in Murrieta, will bring everything needed to decorate a pumpkin for the holidays. She will lead the workshop and show us how to decorate a pumpkin with living succulents. It will be a beautiful decoration for your Thanksgiving season or to take as a hostess gift to your holiday gathering. To participate, please RSVP to Gloria Brosky at goldenmom2finn@gmail. com or 714-292-8507. The cost is $30 per pumpkin. We hope you can join us in this fun learning experience. Our holiday event will be a return to Win-A-Wine on Wednesday, Nov. 16. We will be enjoying hearty appetizers and tasting wines from the wineries we've enjoyed over the past year. Tickets for this event will be sold on Monday, Oct.31, in the Atrium from 10 am to 12 noon. Tickets are $25 for members and $30 for member guests. The Wine Club will be dark in December, so we would like to wish everyone a very happy holiday season. If you have questions or would be interested in joining the Wine Club, please give me a call. Cheers! Wine Club By Sharon Evans, 445-3861 Join the Book Readers on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 10:30 am in the Meeting Room to discuss A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. The discussion will be led by Lynn Smith. This is an uplifting 1943 semi-autobiographical novel of an impoverished but aspirational adolescent girl and her family living in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, NY, during the first two decades of the 20th century. In addition to its immense success worldwide, the book had a massive release to our Armed Forces. One Marine's quote captures the heart and soul of this novel, "I can't explain the emotional reaction that took place in this dead heart of mine… A surge of confidence has swept through me, and I feel that maybe a fellow has a fighting chance in this world after all." Enjoy! Book Readers By Lynn Smith, 714-292-7746
