| THE COLONY NEWS | NOVEMBER 2022 | 11 By Greg Hill It has been an exciting month for the Communications Committee. We now have it confirmed that our new name will be the Communications and Technology Committee, which shortened will be Catcom. Our first Studio Open House in September was well attended and, thanks to the help of our AV consultant, Jake Henderson, we were able to give folks who came a green screen demo souvenir photograph. Also in September, our production crew had the opportunity to record an Outreach to History interview with Colony Founders Don and Barbara Dooley, who we showcased at the Activities Fest and Luau. We learned that Don is the oldest and longest-playing golfer in The Colony, having played the day the golf course opened, and not so long afterwards, he shot a hole-in-one! Barbara has also been an avid golfer, and one year, had two holes-in-one! Barbara revealed that the porch of the golf course restaurant used to be called Sandy's Trap, where "The Golden Girls" golfing group would meet after their games. Barbara also helped found the Rockerettes and danced for more than 20 years before an accident on the stage ended her dancing. The committee is planning further interviews with other Colony residents. Please don't hesitate to put in your application to join us. We are undertaking new tasks and are in need of more members. COMMUNICATIONS EMERGENCY RESPONSE By Kathy Lewis, 951-412-0006 The primary function of the Emergency Response Team is to assist all residents in the event of a community-wide emergency. In order to respond quickly and provide assistance to those in need, our resident information database must be up to date and accurate. To that end, during the next few months block captains and area coordinators will be contacting each resident to confirm information in our database and make any necessary changes. We ask for your cooperation in this effort to assure that we are well prepared if we are ever called into action. If you have any questions, please contact your block captain, area coordinator or Kathy Lewis at the number above. Many thanks!
