32 | THE COLONY NEWS | NOVEMBER 2022 | Ladies Golf By Judy Lebovitz, 461-0065 Men's Golf By Sam Currie, 461-0801 The results are in! After three days of play in our annual President's Cup competition, we now have the winners of each of the two flights. Just to confirm, this was a "match play" format and the only one of this type held each year, won, or lost on a hole-by-hole basis. So, congratulations to the winners of the 2022 President's Cup: Very well played Mike and Malcolm! However, one other important event to occur this month was the Hole-in- One, achieved by Mel Rich (at right) on Hole #15. We all strive to get on that list of achievers but so far most of us, just remain hopeful. Congratulations, Mel! And with regards to the Pancake Breakfast, just a reminder that this will take place in the Auditorium on Saturday, Nov.12. If you have not already purchased tickets, don't worry; they can be bought at the door the morning of the breakfast. Why not join us and become a member of the Colony Men's Golf Club! Call our Membership Director, Bill Connelly, at 760- 861-4831. Since the CMGC is a member club of the SCGA, full membership in the CMGC also includes membership in the SCGA at a reduced fee. Fall is upon us, and we are hoping for cooler weather. Our annual Charity Tournament on Oct.4 was a great success. We played an 18-hole scramble format with 28 players and then enjoyed a fun social hour with a bar and a lovely luncheon. Placards honoring or memorializing loved ones were on each tee box. Representatives from Michelle's Place and Hospice of the Valleys attended. Marilyn Watson, founder of Michelle's Place, spoke about all they do for cancer patients, and Gina Bryant and Christy Necochea from Hospice told us about the important things they do for families needing their services. The winners of the golf tournament were given golf balls, and we raffled off three beautiful gift baskets. From the raffle, we were able to donate $1,500 to each charity. Awesome! All in all, it was a great day and so gratifying to be able to donate to these two organizations. Thanks to everyone who donated, participated and helped make this such a successful event. For the next three months, our tee off time is 8 am. We have a wonderful group of ladies, and either our 9- or 18-hole group would be delighted to welcome you. If you are interested, please contact our membership chair, Peggy Clendenen, at 951-696- 2169 for more information. We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
