10 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2022 Emergency Preparedness Volunteers The Four Seasons Beaumont Resident's Emergency Handbook is the focal point of the Emergency Preparedness Committee. The Emergency Preparedness Committee changed from an action committee to an advisory committee to the HOA Board and residents about eight years ago. The time commitment is not more than a few hours a month. We ask our members to be familiar with the Resident's Emergency Handbook. As committee chairman, I put in four to six hours a month creating an agenda and writing articles for the Breeze. The ideal committee size is seven. We have four members and could use three more. In the past, I've had the most luck recruiting retired nurses. Unfortunately, they leave to travel or go back to work. All four of our members have varied backgrounds. I am a retired health inspector who inspected restaurants, septic systems, and water wells. Marty is a retired nurse who likes to pass on emergency information and share her knowledge of medicine cabinet first aid. She likes to use items from around the house for first aid in lieu of buying a kit. Denise is a retired teacher. She has acted as a test pilot for a variety of ideas. She recently told us about buying a gasoline-free generator. She later shared with us her experiences about her adventures getting a whole-house generator that worked with her solar system. Henry has worked in Information Technology and safety for some large companies. He likes to share articles with the committee that can be potential news for the HOA Board and residents. I want to make things easier during an emergency. Marty likes to share her first aid knowledge with us. Denise is our tester of emergency things that are new and different. Henry likes to share his knowledge with the group. The Resident's Emergency Handbook covers everything from go kits to how to shelter in place and how to deal with your utilities or lack of them during an emergency. If any of this sounds interesting, you can visit us on the third Tuesday of the month. Our next meeting is Nov. 15 at 10 am in the RCN Conference Room. ~ Michael A.
