14 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2022 | Sun Lakes Committee Reports November marks the start of membership renewal for most of our golf clubs. If you are new to Sun Lakes or joining a golf club for the first time, some of our clubs have early sign up for 2023 that includes the participation in their club events for the remainder of 2022. See the Sun Lakes website, Channel 97, or Lifestyles for information about our various Golf Clubs. Membership forms can be found in the Pro Shops or contact the individual club Membership Chair. Over the last couple of years the Championship Course has experienced an increase in pedestrian/dog walker traffic behind the green on hole #4. The GAC would like to remind residents that this is an active golf course area. We have received a number of reports of near misses involving walkers in this area narrowly avoiding being hit by golf balls. Please, for your safety, avoid using this as a route between Riveria and Fairway Oaks. The last thing we want to see, especially the golfers, is anyone getting seriously injured by being hit with a golf ball. With the arrival of fall it is once again time to aerify the greens on both courses. Hopefully by the time this article is published the weather has cooperated and the greens are mostly healed. While many golfers express their disappointment following aerification of our beautiful greens, keep in mind it is this maintenance procedure that provides us with the greens conditions we are accustomed to. One thing that has come to our attention is the maintenance of our newly renovated sand traps. Recently there have been a couple of instances of golfers bottoming out into the liner of the trap. Given the investment we have made in these sand traps, if you bottom out down to the liner please let someone know (Pro Shop, GAC representative, or email Mark Burchfield). From time to time it is necessary to add sand to maintain the appropriate conditions. The sand traps are designed to have four inches of sand on top of the liner to prevent contact with the liner when hitting out of the bunker. We ask golfers to help when raking by smoothing out the sand and not just raking the sand up the sides of the bunker. Golf Advisory Safety Advisory Several street lights have been reported lately as being out. This is bad for people walking their dogs in the dark and they should have reflective clothing and a flashlight as well. Please call administration if you see lights out. There have been several stray dogs apprehended lately without tags and Securitas can only put in our kennels and call Banning Animal Control as EPAP is no longer coordinating this function. Please make sure your dogs have their tags on. We have had more garage thefts lately as side garage doors are still being left open. They have taken laptops, wallets, and other items found in the garage or open cars. ~ Bill Bess, (951) 769-8022 The Lifestyles Advisory Committee meets on the seventh of every month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit articles from clubs and groups for each month's issue of Lifestyles Magazine. We meet with Master Board member Lori Hazelton, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and Recreation Director Kara Lukasik to keep updated about upcoming events in Sun Lakes. If you're submitting articles for the Lifestyles, mark the sixth of each month, 12 noon as the deadline. Thank you! Lifestyles Advisory
