60 60 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2022 | | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2022 | POP Tennis, formerly known as Paddle Tennis, is a fun, fast sport that can be enjoyed by people at all fitness levels. Though played on a smaller court with a different paddle and 20 percent deflated tennis balls, POP Tennis is otherwise scored and regulated like traditional tennis. POP Tennis is played on the courts to the left of the Main Clubhouse on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8 to 10 am (spring/summer hours). Additionally, there is a group that plays Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 3 pm and Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings from 6 to 8 pm. People are free to come and go as their schedules permit. All are welcome and there are always friendly folks to teach beginners the game! Paddles and balls are provided too. For more information or to be on a decision-making committee, please feel free to contact Carl Miller at (951) 512-3131. **All regular POP players are asked to get their $10 membership fee to Jeanne McGuire. The dues are used to plan parties, tournaments and buy balls and paddles. Hope you'll POP by! The fall bowling league got off to a good start with 22 teams. So far, Andy Toro is leading with a scratch series of 740, and running second is Jerry Kelly with 629. Men's scratch game is Jim Ming (also our new president) with a 236. Running second is Tom Leamy with a 229. Women's high scores are Lori Pitz with a 536 scratch series, and Wendy Kading running a close second with a 533. Joan Allen is in first with a 209 scratch game. Second is Debi Burghardt with a 207. Best team scores are In the Hunt with a 2145 has Team Scratch Series. Team 13 with a 748 has Team Scratch Game. Bowlers on Strike with a 2771 have Team Handicap Series, and Bowling Stones with a 960 has Team Handicap Game. In first place is Bowlers on Strike with Carmen Gardner, Clarisa Toro, Cork Irwin and Andy Toro. Second place is On the Way with John Crayk, Theresa Frelex, Sherley Bourland and Jim Edminston. Sun Lakers at Canyon Lanes fall season started on Sept. 12 and ends on April 17. Come join the fun. Speaking of fun, on Thursday morning we have a No Tap event. Do you know what the bowling pins did at Canyon Lanes? They went on strike. Our Sun Lakes III Wednesday league is now underway. We are in our fourth week. There is still a need for two more bowlers and one whole team of four. It's fun, good exercise, and great camaraderie. Come join us. Leading the pack so far is Team #13, "The Almosts", Laura Kosla, Ron Kosla, Ida Nily and Paul Wojton. Season high scores for the men are Andy Toro with a 686 scratch series and Jerry Kelly with a 625. Season high scores for the women are Joan Allen with a 515 scratch series and Ida Nily with a 489. High scratch single game for men are Tom Tykodi with a 243 and Larry Stormes for a 240. High scratch single game for women are Wendy Kading with a 191 and newcomer Colleen Vess with a 181.
