6 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2022 | Where did the time go? We all say that and wonder what happened to the year 2022 — it's almost over. Of course, as we get older the time has a way of traveling at the speed of sound. We now find ourselves near the end of the year. Two things usually happen: we have the Holiday Wish Program, where each District supplies gifts and assistance to two or three families from the Banning School District, and practically every district has a Christmas party or a holiday party. The parties are an attempt to get their district residents together to celebrate the holidays. There are dinner dances, brunches, potluck dinners, and breakfasts presented for your enjoyment. Usually there will be fine food and great entertainment. A lot of hours are spent by committees and Delegates planning and staging the events. First the date and place must be decided. Then, what kind of an event to present to residents is determined. Finally, decisions are made about the selection of food, what kind of entertainment should be employed, and what the format will be. Then what happens? Sometimes the attendance is so low one wonders whether to hold the event or cancel. After all of the effort put into the party, we receive only 30 or 40 reservation… it's simply not worth the effort. I am urging you to support your district and celebrate the holidays with your neighbors and friends! We realize there are a lot of things influencing your decisions. Family affairs come into play, friends want you to attend their events, and the Recreation Department has holiday events that compete with the districts. We ask you to make that extra effort and join the fun. Remember when you were a kid and you couldn't wait for Christmas to arrive? It wasn't always the gifts… it was the family getting together — you saw relatives you hadn't seen since last Christmas. Your extended family here at Sun Lakes is hoping to see you at your district party. ~ Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly DISTRICT DELEGATE ASSEMBLY REPORT 'Tis the Season to Attend Your District's Holiday Party (many are open to everyone!) Thank you to the people who showed up for our September meeting. Due to Thanksgiving, the November meeting will be canceled. We will not be having another meeting until Jan. 16, 2023. I'm hoping to have Guide Dogs of the Desert as our guest speakers for January. Please be sure to mark your calendars for that day. Remember the Fall Craft Fair is Nov. 4 and 5. We still can use some handmade items to sell. If you would like to donate something, you can drop it off at our table the morning of the Craft Fair. We appreciate any handmade donation. All donations go to care for the kitties and doggies in Sun Lakes. Activities Day was very productive. Thank you to all who donated for the pets. We also want to welcome our seven new members who signed up. Happy holidays to all! Info.,Sandra Burgon, (909) 855-0226.
