8 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2022 |
If someone near you has a heart attack, would you
know what to do? We never know when we will be faced
with this situation.
You may need to help a member of your family, a
neighbor or friend. CPR and AED are techniques used
when a person is suspected of having a heart attack and
becomes unresponsive or stops breathing.
CPR is cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It is a life-saving technique
that teaches you how to compress the chest to keep the heart beating
and to keep oxygen flowing in the blood.
AED is automated external defibrillator. This is a device that
shocks the heart into a life-sustaining rhythm, often used with CPR.
These are located in our Clubhouses and the Main Pro Shop.
EPAP is helping to facilitate CPR/AED Training Classes here in
Sun Lakes. These classes are open to all residents, and will be taught
by Sun Lakes resident Linda Myers-Kalb, RN, certified Red Cross
First Aid Instructor. Classes, two per day are three hours
long. The Red Cross class fee per person is $24, including
certificate. Advance registration is required. First aid
training is not required.
