34 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2022 | Makua Hula Hawaiian Dancers This month our country and all Sun Lakes residents will all have the opportunity to honor and thank all our Veterans on Veterans Day. The Makua Hula Hawaiian dancers wish to thank you for your service to our country. We enjoy our freedoms today because of your courage, dedication and sacrifice. Know you are appreciated not just on Nov. 11, but everyday. We will also celebrate Thanksgiving Day which will give all of us an opportunity to reflect on how lucky we are to live in a free country, to express our love to our families and friends, and to give thanks for all our blessings. We wish all of you and your families a Happy Thanksgiving. We had a busy summer performing at different venues, and we will continue performing throughout the holidays. The Makua dancers recently performed at The Lakes in Banning and we all spent an enjoyable afternoon performing our Hawaiian dancing for the residents and renewing friendships with former Sun Lakers who now reside there. We always look forward to our visit with them and making new friends. Hawaiian dancing is a great form of exercise. If you would like to learn Hawaiian dancing or have never even considered it, consider it now and join us on Wednesdays from 10 am to 12 pm at the North Clubhouse and/or Saturdays from 8 to 10 am at the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. We are always looking for new members who want to join a fun group who love Hawaiian dancing, love to perform and who want to share in the camaraderie of our group throughout the year at our social events. If performing is not something you are interested in, you can still learn our dances without the pressure of performing on stage. If you just want to exercise and dance, come give us a try. Also, for those of you who have physical disabilities or limited mobility but would like to learn Hawaiian dancing, we offer you the opportunity to participate in our Hawaiian chair dancing class with the regular members on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There are no monthly dues. A smile and good attitude is all that is required. There is no better time to start hula dancing than now. We look forward to having you join us. Our group is also available to perform for your events. If you are interested in having us perform, or want information about our group, contact Perla Williams at (951) 467-8339 or at pearlyshellsdancer@ gmail.com. The Stardust Dancers Modeling Class just might be what you are looking for! Learning to put yourself out there does wonders for your self esteem. Both men and women are encouraged to give it a try. The classes are fun and informative. You will learn to project your presence and personality to an audience. Learn to communicate with your audience without saying a word. All routines are choreographed for the group by Evelyn Hawkins, who has taught modeling for many years. She has directed many stage presentations, pageants, and fashion shows. A stage performance is a goal of the class, but you are not required to perform. It is strictly your choice. Come check it out. Most classes are held on Fridays on the stage at 3 pm. A schedule will be available for each month. For additional information or to make a reservation time, call (951) 616-4542. You can text to this number as well. Stardust Dancers ICC will celebrate the 60s at the November ICC event scheduled for Thursday evening, Nov. 10 in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Delaney & James will return for a second appearance and will supply the music for the evening. Veterans will also be recognized during the evening with a Parade of Veterans and the Stardust Dancers will perform a military routine as a salute to the club's veterans. Sign-ups for the November event will be held on Nov. 3 at the South Clubhouse beginning at 3:30 pm. Meal selection will be made at the time you sign up. The price for members is $28 and $30 for non- members. If you miss the Nov. 3 date to sign up and want to attend the dinner and dance, contact Donna Leone at (951) 797-0832 no later than the following Sunday afternoon. If you are unable to attend the event after signing up, you can request a take-out meal box. Contact Ann Hoefert no later than 2 pm on the day of the event at (909) 553-3292 and she will make arrangements for you to pick up your meal in the Bus Room at 6:15 pm on the night of the event. Membership is $25 per person per calendar year. A "try before you buy" opportunity is available for Sun Lakes residents who have not been members in the past. Previous members do not qualify for this "try before you buy" opportunity.
