| OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2022 | 11 Move Over October and Welcome November "November gave a party. The leaves by hundreds came, The Chestnuts, Oaks and Maples, And leaves of every name. And everything was grand! Miss Weather led the dancing, Professor Wind, the Band." November is the month of social times. It is known for its community suppers, feasts of Thanksgiving, and general elections. It is the gateway to winter when many of our northern friends pull their boats out of the lakes, cut wood for their fireplaces and prepare for the snows of December. It is the changing of the seasons. Fall has left its leaves beneath once lush trees and small children build make believe houses in their discarded foliage. Laughter abounds as they become the Kings and Queens of their newly created forts and castles. In Oceanside, it is a time for long walks on the beach, deserted now without the crowds of summer. A lone dog chases a stick as he runs and frolics in the surf. The sun sets earlier now, and the cool chill of late afternoon invites us to cuddle up in our favorite sweater. November has arrived. It is a time to read a good book. Many new books have been purchased including some for the holidays. The Twelve Topsy-Turvy, Very Messy Days of Christmas by James Patterson is a quick, fun read for the holidays. It's mid- December and for the fifth year in a row, there is little sign of the festive season in the Sullivan family home in South London. Suddenly, mysterious gifts begin to arrive from a stranger. Before they know it, their house is filled with boisterous animals and house guests. The next 12 days turns their household upside down. However, it might just be the Christmas they needed. America's great storyteller has written a gift, a delightful story to be shared with the entire family. It is full of laughs and suspense. We are reminded once again that November celebrates our Veterans. If you have enjoyed some of the stories written by these veterans, you are in for a special treat. Theatre Arts Encore Players, directed by Sally Benton, will present a special tribute to them on Nov. 15. Selections will be performed from The Stories That Must Be Told, that are found in our library and written by our San Diego Vets of North County. The Encore players will also bring music, acting and dance to our community by presenting vignettes from Fiddler on the Roof, Charlie Brown, The Fantasticks, and many more. Theatre Arts Club members tickets are free and non-member tickets are $5. Reserve your tickets now!
