| OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2022 | 19 Here's wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving and here come the holidays. The Clubhouse will remain open on Thanksgiving Day, with minimal set-ups, closing at 5 pm for the staff to head home for dinner with their families. We have so much to be thankful for, as we hear what is happening in the world around us. The Woodchucks are holding their annual Toy Drive this month. They have had overwhelming success organizing this in the Overflow Parking Lot and the Community continues to come out, year after year, with their generosity. This is certainly a labor of love for our resident wood and sewing crafters. Come and support by giving back, it will make your Thanksgiving holiday truly special. The holiday decorations are ordered, and the outdoor lighting will be lit before December arrives. Our thanks to the Garden Club and the CIMC for their continued support and assistance. In the information racks at the Clubhouse, is information regarding our week at-a-glance, movie schedules, classes, trips, club info, bus schedule, and referrals for services. We have asked all interest groups to complete a reservation form for 2023. Once this is complete, we will move on to opening the reservations to private room rentals in the middle of December. This process consumes hours of data entry. This year we are experiencing record growth in the clubs, classes, and those desiring to get back in action. This will impact availability, as so many of us are feeling better about meeting indoors. This desire comes with groups requesting usage during the peak times of the day from 9 am to 4 pm. For this reason, the priority list was established by the Master Association, as to create fairness. The Recreation Department is monitoring the number of requests, evaluating the ability to manage the requests, and attempting to create a successful outcome for our users. The bus trip this month is now scheduled for Wed., Nov. 16, to the Wild Animal Park in Escondido. The bus will leave at 9 am and come back at 3:30 pm. Please register at the Clubhouse Front Desk. A $10 refundable deposit is required when registering, refunded as riders embark. Riders will be responsible for paying for their admission. A special "thank you" goes out to Walgreens on Cannon Road for their participation in our Flu Shot Clinic. Over 85 flu vaccines were administered, and a number of residents got their COVID-19 boosters. Tri-City Medical Center will host its last lecture for the year on Tues., Nov. 8, at 11:30 am. A ticket is required to reserve a seat for lunch. The ongoing partnership with the Medical Center has been beneficial to all involved. Remember, to get out and VOTE on the same day - Nov. 8, 2022. The Village Vets are sponsoring the Veterans Day Program this year and holding the event in Abravanel Hall with refreshments immediately following. In the past two years, a parade was organized to avoid being indoors, but the program will resume this year. On Nov. 11 at 11 am, all service personnel will be honored. This year all service women will be featured, including the nine service women who reside in OHCC. See flyer for details. The Recreation Department is hosting a one-time talk combining Yoga Techniques with Duke Integrative Medicine methods. The cost of the class is $25. It will be in the Majorca Room, Sat., Nov. 19, from 10 am to 12 noon. Sign-ups are limited to 15 participants. The instructor is Leslie Ferree Morrill, specializing in coaching Forward Path Yoga. Flyers with more info are in the racks at the Clubhouse. If there is significant interest, Leslie would consider starting a new class. As the holidays are upon us, check out the flyer in this publication for our Holiday Golf Cart Parade, Dec. 13, at 4 pm. Last year our parade dwindled down in numbers, as we made it across the finish line. This change will give us more daylight hours, minimize the exposure to the chilly weather, allowing for earlier "toddies" on the driveways with friends. Carts and vehicle entries must register at the Clubhouse Front Desk. A map will become available in December's issue.
