October was an active month for
our club members and others who
chose to join us, to find out what
our hiking and walking outings are
all about. For a September walk, we
had 22 participants on the Carlsbad
beach from the Army/Navy
Academy to the jetty wall, and back.
Over two hours of walking in the
fresh ocean air, we gathered at the
Village Fair in Carlsbad, ordering
everything from breakfast to lunch.
Highlights in September
included a walk in Escondido to
support Alzheimer's research,
a walk headed by Jack Shabel.
Following this walk, we gathered
for our annual picnic at a state park in Encinitas on Sept. 27.
October was our most active month, including hikes at Torrey
Pines Scripps Overlook on Oct. 7; Rancho La Costa Ridgeline Trail
on Oct. 14; Potato Chip Rock at Lake Poway Oct. 22; and Double Peak
Trail in San Marcos on Oct. 27.
In November, hikers challenged Volcon Mountain in Julian
and Garnet Peak, early and mid-
November.
Abley led by President Rich
Halkyard, a strong hiker on
every outing, we move forward
as a Club. Many announcements
concerning hikes forthcoming.
With Thanksgiving and Christmas
taking over late November into
December, we lessen our outings,
knowing January fuels all of us
again, starting the new year with
the announcement of officers and
the announcement of new hikes,
areas in and around our County to
be explored.
