Art Lovers It was a lovely late summer morning in the Palm Court where Art Lovers Club members and guests gathered to welcome several of our new members. After refreshments were served, our president Susan Pick introduced the new members who told a little about themselves and why they joined the club. Next, she introduced the Board Members who explained their duties and how long they have served on the Board. Surveys were handed out to all asking for suggestions for meetings, volunteers and how we could improve the club. There are two positions that need to be filled for the coming year, Membership Director, and a Hospitality Helper. The Membership Director maintains an updated list of all our members in a spreadsheet or other listing. Our Hospitality Helpers shop for and set up refreshments for our general meetings in the Mykonos Room several times a year. Susan also spoke about our upcoming trips, meetings and our Holiday Luncheon on Tues., Dec. 6 at the Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista. Board Member, Pamela Colton told the group about all the possibilities that she has thoughtfully researched for trips and meetings for 2023 and asked people to send in their own suggestions. On Oct. 21, we planned a trip to the Oceanside Museum of Art. We were excited to view the exhibition of Gail Roberts called Color Field, a large array of singular flowers each on a 20" x 24" canvas arranged by color. Roberts says, "The process of each painting begins with an intuitive ground of poured paint forming unpredictable and chance occurrences as the paint dries. The painted image of the flower is superimposed, and through close observation, the perfection as well as the flaws and irregularities of each flower are revealed". At our Tues., Nov. 15 meeting, Oceanside artist Michelle Montjoy will describe her latest fabric installation called The Breathing Room at the New Children's Museum in San Diego. The installation features intricate knitted sculptures made of repurposed T-shirts that move up and down to replicate breathing cycles. You can learn more at thinkplaycreate.org/breathing-room. However, if you have actually checked out the art works by our very talented resident artists, you will certainly agree with our opinions. Judy Harris and I (Lainy Vinikow) have been doing these Art Studio installations for years and never cease to be impressed by the quality and professionalism of our resident artists. We are happy to welcome two new exhibitors, Pat Battles and Sue Silva, and we are grateful for the muscles and good eye of Mike McCaslin who helped with the installation. Sometimes, a simple "tweaking" of space by a few inches can make a big difference in the way art pieces show individually and, also, relate to the adjacent art. We welcome back exhibitors Annette Frimtzis, Karin Leszinski, Michael McCaslin, Malcolm Reinhardt, and Gary Warmuth. Their works include watercolor, acrylic, oil on canvas, watercolor on yupo paper, and ceramic. A wide variety of subject matter and all really beautiful. Come see!
