30 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2022 | Happy holidays OHCC! The Travel Club Board is excited about trips and events planned for the remainder of this year and into 2023. Please Note: Our Annual Dinner & Meeting, scheduled to be held Nov. 14, is canceled. Trips And Club Events • Dec. 12, 2022 - We're traveling to Riverside for lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory and a guided tour of The Mission Inn, which will be decorated with over four million lights. This trip is SOLD OUT; Wait list only. • Jan. 9, 2023 - We are going to kick off 2023 with a special night in Abravanel Hall. For Travel Club members only, we will have an expanded Social Hour with refreshments, followed by a presentation by Joe Ashby and Dee Wardell on their trip to Turkey. • Jan. 17, 2023 - We start our day at LA's Farmers Market for lunch, and then we will have a two-hour guided tour of the Paramount Pictures studio lot and a visit to a Sound Stage and the prop warehouse. • March 16, 2023 - SAVE THE DATE for our trip to visit Sights around San Diego, including stops at Mt. Soledad, San Diego Central Library and Bario Logan! • Aug. 1, 2023 - SAVE THE DATE for another trip to the fabulous Pageant of the Masters, a real Travel Club favorite destination! Complete information about each of our trips is available in the Clubhouse when all the details are finalized. Regarding our wait lists, we frequently have people on a trip whose plans have changed and need to cancel. So, many people on our wait lists actually do get to go on a trip, replacing those who canceled. To sign up, please leave a check, with proof of vaccination attached (if not already submitted), made out to the OH Travel Club and put it in the Travel Club Envelope at the Clubhouse Front Desk. Add $5 if you are not a member of the Travel Club. We certainly hope you will come and join us at one of our events -- Especially on one or more of our trips - where we are driven in a luxury bus, all gratuities are included, and we usually have a refund ($$$) when there are more than 25 travelers. Your Travel Club Board. Callie Dean, Donna Wessel-Graham, Lynn Opelka, Amy Blount, and Judy Buoniconti Travel Club Classes are on Tuesdays 12:30 to 3 pm and on Thursdays 10 am to 12:30 pm. That year, it saved the Christmas and Hanukkah holidays for the families of our Marine heroes. That event was so exciting and successful that the Woodchucks, Garden Club, Sewing Club, Chorale, and Veterans' Club have continued to join ranks in putting on the holiday celebration. This year, on Nov. 19, we hope to turn the overflow parking lot into a holiday wonderland with decorations, music, toy displays, sewing artwork, and grateful Marines. Hopefully, with open hearts, you will join us with your donations of toys, gift cards, and checks. To get into the mood, the Woodchucks recently had a toy- making workshop for members. This showed how to find wooden toy plans, online or at the shop. We have wood, and many accent pieces to help with your toy building. The excitement is building, and so are the Toys for the Marine Kids, be they good girls or boys! Santa's help we do give, it's that spirit so bold … to create joy with wood, is something to behold! Save the date of Sat., Nov. 19, from 9 am to 1 pm,to join the Woodchucks, Garden Club, Vets Club, Sewing Club, and Chorale as our community once again comes together to help with donations for the children of Camp Pendleton. Bring unwrapped toys, gift cards, bikes, cash, or checks (made out to either OHCC Woodchucks or to Armed Service YMCA for a tax-deductible donation) to this early Ocean Hills Country Club celebration of the holidays. Working with the Armed Service YMCA, we are gathering our gifts early so they are better able to purchase and/or distribute gifts in time for Christmas and Hanukkah. This will be a special occasion for us to get in the holiday spirit! In the overflow parking lot, you will be able to drive through with your gifts or walkabout to view the toys from our clever Woodchuck master-builders and the imaginative cradle blankets and stockings created by the Sewing Club. Come celebrate the season with us, in the overflow lot, on Nov. 19 from 9 am to 1 pm, as you enjoy carols sung by our own chorale volunteers.
