| OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2022 | 33 Our October RV trip has our members off to the central coast of California. Staying in an RV Resort in Pismo beach, an active trip has been planned to local attractions including Hearst Castle. The final preparations are being made for the November "Thanksgiving" camp out in Temecula and the January Pop-Up trip to Newport Dunes is just around the corner. Nine RVs recently returned from a Pop-Up trip to Jackson, CA. It is an hour's drive east of Sacramento in the area where gold was first discovered, initiating the gold rush of 1849. Despite some rainy weather, the campers were able to huddle under a large RV awning and have good food, drink and conversation. Playing Jenga, biking, hiking and exploring some small towns in the area made for an enjoyable and relaxing trip. One of the great benefits of life at OHCC is to have a gated RV Storage lot accessible to residents. There is also a RV dump station and RV wash station within the lot. The convenience and cost savings of having these amenities within OHCC is a substantial amenity to those interested in RVing. The lot is administered by the HOA and run by the RV Lot Committee including representation from our residents and representation from the RV Club. At the last general RV Club meeting, President Skip Harvey and RV Lot Vice President Bob Becker told us about a plan to do some reorganization of the RV Parking lot. While there are currently several spaces available for smaller RV's (under 30 ft), there is a shortage of spaces for larger units with tow vehicles. An accommodation is being considered to take 2 smaller spots and use one for the towing vehicle and the second for the towed vehicle. The committee is also considering repainting some RV lot parking spaces to increase the allowable length. Turning radius and sufficient area for maneuverability are always considerations with any changes to the lot. Our thanks to all the committee members for keeping the lot operating so smoothly! RV Club Veterans Club Finally, we will have our Veterans Day Celebration once again on Nov. 11, in Abravanel Hall at 1100 hours as we honor our OHCC Veterans as well as all Veterans. This is a day set aside to pay special tribute to veterans of our Armed Forces, honoring the men and women who served in war and those who served in peace. We remember their sacrifices they have made and the courage it takes to defend honor, duty, and country. It is our privilege to say "Thank You" to all of our Veterans and let them know that we appreciate each of them for their service! Veterans Day honors all of those who have served the country in war or peace — dead or alive — although it is largely intended to thank living veterans for their sacrifices, bravery, and love for their country. You might ask why is it important to honor our veterans? Honor is a matter of carrying out, acting and living the values of respect, duty, loyalty, selfless service, integrity and personal courage in everything you do. We give honor to the flag and to the ideals it represents and the symbolism it lends to the greatness of our nation. Veterans appreciate freedom in a way that civilians take for granted. Veterans truly understand what goes into making a country free and they willingly take the steps to ensure all our freedoms every day. Veterans make great role models. Whether you are a child or an adult, we all have a lot to learn from Veterans. It is important to remember the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who have fallen in the line of duty and sacrificed their lives to protect the highest of ideals, and to keep all of us safe from enemies near and abroad… it is a time when we honor our fallen heroes as well as all veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. Veterans are special because they leave their families to fight for our country and for our freedom. They fight for their children, their husbands and wives, and for the world. Veterans are special because they put all our needs before their own so we can live another day in freedom. They appreciate freedom in a way that civilians take for granted. How can each of us honor our Veterans on their special day? You can begin by flying our red, white and blue American flag on Veterans Day. We give honor to the flag and to the ideals it represents plus the symbolism it lends to the greatness of our nation. Let's show our Veterans in Ocean Hills how grateful we are for their service. As many of you know, our Veterans Day programs began with WWII, Korea, Vietnam and then the Army Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. This year we will be honoring our Ocean Hills women who have served. Happy Veterans Day to all our Ocean Hills Veterans and I really look forward to being back in Abravanel Hall at 1100 hours on November11, 2022. ~ Donna A. Russel
