| OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2022 | 35 Greetings Papercrafters near and far and to all our friends in OHCC! Please tell me where the time goes. Thanksgiving is just weeks away and I'm already feeling tense about getting my Christmas shopping done. But one thing I'm definitely ready for is getting my Christmas cards out on time, thanks to my mentor Jan Malone from Papercrafting. In this month's article, I'm highlighting my friend Jan who introduced me to what has become my favorite hobby. When I joined Papercrafting in January of 2020, we got lucky to have Jan sign us as our group leader. But then March delivered COVID to our doorsteps, the Clubhouse closed, and we hunkered down in isolation thinking, "oh well that does it for crafting." Little did we know that Jan would go above and beyond for us as she does in every aspect of her life. Jan figured out how to keep teaching us despite COVID and lockdown. She got us through the worst of the isolation, making Monday's immensely fun with take home kits and Zoom classes, eventually opening her patio to us for class with masks and six feet of separation. During that year Jan managed to teach us an amazing number of techniques, always giving and teaching more than she needed to. She kept us together and kept us focused on something beautiful and creative… papercrafting. Along the way, she shared not only her supplies, but her ideas, wisdom, and advice. She became a dear friend to all of us, always generous with her wisdom… like, making sure you begin working on your Christmas cards in the summertime! There are many wonderful people in our club and I'm glad to know them. Papercrafters are fun, generous with each other, and helpful whenever possible. Many Papercrafters share cards anonymously all year long. And each week, someone from every group brings their talents, tools, supplies and ideas to their groups meeting and a new project is enjoyed by all. I think that's what I really love about this club; the ever-present spirit of giving and sharing. And so, because we acknowledge all we are blessed with and grateful for during this month of Thanksgiving, I want to thank all within our Papercrafting Club for their generosity; and a special high five to my friend Jan. To our members celebrating birthdays this month, may you all enjoy your celebrations and get everything you wish for! Sharon Doyle, Lissa Glenn, Vicki Greene, Betty Ruehle, and Ellin Whitson are all part of the Topaz birthstone club, and may you get to celebrate all month long. Please enjoy the accompanying papercrafting photos. Now, get those Thanksgiving cards out this week to all those family members and friends near and far. After that, don't forget to finalize those cards, you're either making or ordering for the holidays. Find out what other fun holidays people are celebrating this month and remember to send one or two "Thinking of You" cards to those you love!
