38 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2022 | Many thanks to our club's Captains & Mates, Board of Directors, and our social and membership directors who have worked so hard to raise the bar for Ocean Hills Sailing Club's success. With many more opportunities to go sailing, interest in the club has really burgeoned. As of Oct. 1, the club boasts having 210 members including 78 new members in 2022 and those new members are on top of the 65 new members in 2021. Through September, we have completed 55 sails including: day sails; sail-up dockside dinner sails at The Ketch restaurant on Shelter Island; "sunset" sails; one experimental sail - a "concert" sail - for a performance at the Rady Shell; and, most recently, a "birthday party sail." The club continues to develop new and exciting sailing events and plans to introduce new ideas at a yet to be scheduled January "OHSC Meet & Greet" for existing and prospective members. As of Oct. 1, the club has scheduled 11 sails in October and another seven in November which brings the estimated total of 73 sails in 2022. Of course, more may be scheduled as we go forward. The club plans to pause sailing in December as we wind up 2022 and start planning for 2023. We expect 2023 sails to commence in March. As in 2022, sails will be announced looking forward two months at a time (a cycle) with the first cycle ready for sign-ups on Feb. 1. Our Fleet Captain will send email blasts to all members prior to Feb. 1, so members can plan their calendars. Patterned after 2022, there will likely be four two-month cycles and a fifth one-month cycle. Everyone should have ample opportunity to schedule one or more sails during the year. There may also be sails posted from time to time on short notice in January and February, depending on sailing conditions for members unopposed to cold weather sailing. OHSC's "Starry Night" semi-formal dinner dance was scheduled Oct. 28 and will be commented on in our next newsletter appearing in December's OHCC Living. May you have fair winds and following seas.
