8 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2022 | Our Trees of Life Every tree in OHCC is considered to be revered; some are Legacy Trees having been established with our community. This means that they are held in the highest regard because they contribute to the beauty and health of Ocean Hills. Their health contribution is that they change carbon dioxide into healthy oxygen (as all plants do); their beauty is obvious. In a July 2021 article of the National Geographic magazine titled, "An Urban Canopy Can Help Cool A City," it was stated that, "Shading objects from solar rays can lower their surface temperature by up to 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Even without the sun, rainwater evaporating from trees can reduce the temperature by up to nine degrees Fahrenheit." Global warming has made trees even more necessary, but paradoxically, more scarce due to so many fires in California. Forest fires are doubly devastating because 1.) Carbon is released by the burning trees (polluting the air) and 2.) Less trees are left to clean the air. Many people complain about the leaves which trees tend to drop; it is the nature of a living tree, just as we shed hair and nails. Falling leaves present a great opportunity for you to improve your soil's humus and fertility. Just dig a hole in your yard between plants, and place your gathered leaves in the hole, being sure to cover the leaves with the surrounding dirt so that the composting can begin. You will have better soil in that area in less than a year. The Landscape Committee knows we face challenges with some tree roots being invasive, which is not the same as being a nuisance. We hope we can protect our canopy to make our lives at OHCC cooler and healthier. Landscape Committee Talent and Experience. That's what the Community Image & Marketing Committee is seeking when looking to next years' committee member applications for the 2023 term. We will have several spots available and we want to "mine the gold" of our community members. With so many new residents, we know there is more talent and resources that may be here willing to join in our efforts. So, what is the CIMC, its purpose and function? The Community Image & Marketing Committee was created in late 2020 through the merging of two previous committees: The Marketing & Communications Committee and the Executive Design Committee. The previous Marketing Committee established OHCC's image and brand identity, including our logo, marketing strategy and image. The former Design Committee was tasked with redesigning our Clubhouse interior and Inspiration Hill. The CIMC is unique, as it is tasked with ensuring the continued recognition and uniformity of the OHCC brand throughout all uses (i.e., website, marketing materials, resident communications and aesthetics). In addition, we are a Committee that works along side other committees to make observations and advise on logo usage, signage, landscaping improvements, alterations to Community buildings and property and more. We act as a resource for other committees, clubs, the Master Board and HOA. We are tasked with being the committee that takes a 360 degree/10,000 ft. overview of the communities' image as a whole. The new OHCC Front Entry and Monument is the first project completed by the CIMC in early 2022. We are currently working on future Clubhouse upgrades and advising on design concepts for the Lanai project. We continue to work with clubs and committees at their request. We also work closely with the HOA to enhance and improve our Community image, to ensure consistency of our message and protect home values. The Committee welcomes all residents with experience and interest in design, communications and marketing to consider joining us in 2023. Please watch for notifications of when committee applications become open to members later this year.
