28 | THE COLONY NEWS | DECEMBER 2022 | By Rita Nastri, 951-698-8640 The Colony Elf is excited to see the Toys for Tots box being filled with your gifts for needy children. A Toys for Tots box is available for your convenience in the Clubhouse Lobby and will remain there until Sunday, Dec. 11. Because the toy distribution begins in early December and continues until Christmas, we must adhere to the dates requested of us. We are halfway to our collection date, so you still have time to help fill the box. Let's make this holiday special for as many kids as we can! Southwest Riverside County Marine Corps League and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve appreciate your gifts of unwrapped toys for children of all ages. In the past, this effort has not only provided some joy during the holidays, but also sends a message of hope, which can motivate children to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders. Remember, The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is an IRS- RECOGNIZED 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit public charity. Thank you from the kids and have a Happy and Merry Christmas Holiday. For more information, please call me at the above number. TOYS FOR TOTS ITALIAN LANGUAGE CLASS: My name is Ornella Atwell. I started an Italian Language class on Nov. 9. The class is every Wednesday from 11 am to 12 noon in the Card Room. This class is FREE! Anyone interested may join any time during the Holiday Season. The class is open and has no prerequisites. The following are a few of the multiple benefits of learning a new language: • Improves your memory and slows down cognitive decline. • Increases your understanding of the language you already speak. • Stimulates the brain's cognitive functions. • Allows you to connect and meet new people. • Gain perspective and access to information • And most of all, HAVE FUN! If you have any questions, please call or text me at 951-236- 3966. Grazie, Ornella PEARL: If you attended The Colony Talent Show in October, you may remember the dance group, Pearl, which performed a Chinese folk dance. This group is choreographed by Lulu Scott, and she is looking for performers for next year's talent show. Would you be interested in joining? The group meets every Tuesday morning in the Auditorium. An invitation to explore joining Pearl will be held Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 10:30 am in the Auditorium. If you have any questions, please contact Lulu Scott at 858-442-6808. We'll see you there! COLONY COIN CLUB: Harold Schefski has established a Coin Club at The Colony. His father left him a coin collection and he has been collecting his entire life.
